Could I be Mentally unbalanced listening to the same album over and over again? or will the insanity suddenly and abruptly halt?.. I did this once with Hall & Oates music, but now it is Dave Grusin & Lee Ritenour "Harlequin" album.. it's been 3 weeks and I play it over and over with no desire to listen to anything else.. is there some sort of evil backward masking thing going on, that has made me into a musical zombie of sorts?

thanks for the re-assurance Displaced Pianist.. I am really starting to love Dane Allen's Ritornello in D Major immensely, even with the D string out of tune.. it is putting chills down my spine in certain areas of the tune.. it has some kind of unnerving areas in it that touch me emotionally.. it's from 1:30 to 1:47 that is emotional it is unnerving.. I was hoping Planetguy could "feel it" but he could not..

I got that CD in 1985 and The Bird is my favorite track. Play that song at sunset driving on the Swiss Alps and you are in another world.

it is my favorite too.. they put it on as the last track on the album... I wish i could just hang out in the studio with those guys just to see how they do the creative process.. do they jam it out and then write it down?..or do they hear it in their heads and write it down without jamming? .. and then to write all the harmonic parts of the other instruments? it's miraculous almost to have that complex of music turn out so perfectly.. "Silent Message" is probably the most jazziest tune on the album..imo

thanks jookey, who was the psychologist who spoke of Synchronicity? was it Carl Jung? there be some of that going down tonight because I listened to Royal Court for the 1st time in months tonight.. it is intriguing in a simplistic way, 2:58 is about right but another minute with a newly created OUTRO chord combination would add another element to it..I like Stepping Stone the best..it's creepy.. there is another bone to pick with people about how long a tune should be?.. I am noticing all the tunes on the Harlequin album are all over 4 minutes.. most in the 5 minute range..

believe it or not, I was playing that gut string guitar yesterday almost just across from Lynyrd Dylan, man oh man, there was so many vendors set up when I got there at my usual time 5:10 AM.. I had to pull in down from my usual spot about 6 spaces, that's when I looked over to where Dylan generally sets up, see his pickup, hopped back in the truck and as I just was starting to turn the ignition on I heard Dylan yelling, come over and set up with us Goluski, Mike & Laura, etc. I yelled back" I was just heading there".. kinda shitty selling day, not the greatest of loads and too many vendors divvying up the money.. but, I played guitar awhile and also had a couple guitars for sale, with the little test amp that Vox AA battery operated modeling amp 3 watts but is really cool..

If I get a new album that 'speaks to me', I'll listen to it a few times in the first week or so, before it becomes part of a steady rotation of CDs.

Btu listening to Hall & Oates repeatedly could definitely cause mental instability!

Sorry I didn't realize this was a real conversation about music. Must have hallucinated the word pigs on the title!

I have done this myself, usually burying said album for days/ weeks/ months/ years to recover from the episode.
