So the Gibson Mandobird (a full electric mandolin in all the stylings of a Firebird, be still, Talbot's beating heart!). Is that thing any fun? I'd like to plug one into a Marshall stack, just for shits and giggles....

i've never played one. i've read lots of complaints about intonation on them. they're cheap enough though and replacement bridges go for around $40. (that a common mod a lot of folks do on them)

i'd never go w their 4 string version though. to me a mando ain't a mando unless it's got double course strings!

(sorry, Tiny Moore!)

I have cheap ukes, but I think you guys are missing the attraction of a good ol metalhead towards a hard body 4 string mando that can crank some decibels without dealing with any piezo pickups or any other annoyances that come with these instruments. I gave up on ukes because I can do the same thing on a classical guitar, but with a bassline accompanying.
