(CNN)For the Eagles' Joe Walsh, the show must not go on.

The musician pulled out of a concert scheduled for July 18 in Cleveland, Ohio, after he said he learned of the show's ties to the Republican National Convention.

"It was my understanding that I was playing a concert which was a nonpartisan event to benefit the families of American veterans on Monday, July 18 in Cleveland," Walsh said in a statement he released Wednesday.

"Today it was announced that this event is, in fact, a launch for the Republican National Convention."
Walsh said he also discovered that his name would be used "to raise sponsorship dollars for convention-related purposes" and therefore he felt forced to withdraw from the event.

"I am very concerned about the rampant vitriol, fear-mongering and bullying coming from the current Republican campaigns," Walsh said. "It is both isolationist and spiteful. I cannot in good conscience endorse the Republican party in any way."

Walsh is scheduled to co-headline the "One Hell of a Night Tour" with Bad Company, which kicks off May 12 in Dallas. He apologized to any fans or veterans who may have been disappointed over his decision on the Cleveland gig and promised to do a benefit concert for vets later in the year.

Well of course it's a Republican event!??

The Democrats hate the military and are doing everything they can to destroy our military capability. Duh???

Joe, you haven't really been worth listening to since Funk 49 anyway. Maybe you can get a job with Springsteen?

Joe Walsh is one amazing musician. Forget all his Eagles material, he is great on his own.

This is what happens when BS becomes the normal operative situation. The republicans have become a party of commies only stopped by the fact that the democrats got there first.

Joe... I would suggest you talk to Ted... :)

Thanks for the post PG. Just for the record F# G A, or any other key, (C# D E),ETC, very good for stretching all creative skills. Joe Walsh... Don't think he would use it. Sorry for a musical comment.

I finally got a chance to see Joe with a band (rather than him with the Eagles) last year. Killer show, great guitar playing and tones. F*cking hilarious commentary.
Bravo to him for taking a stand and not playing "just for the money".

I never knew much about the James Gang, but someone posted a video of the playing their big song for an encore at a recent reunion. I was shocked they played as a trio and the level to which they rocked that stadium.

(Oh, there are other categories aside from 'general music chat'? Didn't realize that...)

So Joe has some scruples and doesn't want his name (and music) used to raise $$ for the GOP--good for him. He doesn't have to play anywhere he doesn't want to; it's his right. I wouldn't want to be co-opted for a cause I abhor, either. For anyone who notes that ol' Joe is irrelevant, anyway, maybe that says something 'bout the GOP. If they had to scrape that far down the proverbial barrel...

First concert I ever saw: the (original) James Gang @ the Ohio State Fair. I won't say what year it was, but most of you weren't born yet. As far as I'm concerned, it was a really good show.

like glen said... "joe, is an amazing musician". to which i'll add he's also a great producer, songwriter, and can still sing his a$$ off (amazing after how's he's abused himself for so long).

he's also a friggin' riot and one of the most humble guys around. i've seen a few interviews w him and when he talks about his sobriety and faith....he lacks any trace of being up on a soapbox preaching. absolutely zero self righteousness. points.

ted, when you get a chance please check out these two tunes from his latest album "Analog Man". I think they both very nicely sum up what this guy is about.

Ok, I'll admit he's a helleva guitarist and singer. I also saw the james gang in like '78? Learned Funk 49 and Rocky Mountain Way as teenager....but wasn't a big Eagles fan.

But really....the Democrats do nothing to support the troops. If anything, they spend their time trying to demoralize and disrepect them so I have never heard of any rally for the troops that wasn't somehow associated with Republicans.....and Joe would know that if he isn't an ignoramus.

This political correctness is a pimple on the ass of rock n roll. I don't do boycotts because, when you look close enough, you see that we are all connected in a myriad of layers no matter whose face is on it.

So this is stupidity...and now I just think that Joe is stupid.
