The band I have been playing in Daze Of Nite has been struggling to survive the usual band woes of finding gigs. We just seem jinxed. I have never had this hard of a time finding gigs. The gigs I did book would turn around and cancel for various reasons. That really wears on your patient. To top that off our keyboard player is leaving the biz. doesn't want to fight the battle anymore.
I went and auditioned for another band last Thursday and I was asked to join immediately. These guys play 7 to 9 gigs a month. I am playing my first gigs with them this Friday and Saturday. I have been woodshed practicing all week to get the songs ready. I am excited because I don't have to worry about booking gigs and the song list is straight up good ole Rock and Roll showcasing the lead guitarist ability. I told the guys in DON and will honor all gigs currently on the books. about 12 into November. There are 3 conflicting gigs but the new band SoulShine is going to get a sub for those gigs!

Good luck with the new venture, Jeff. Being able to concentrate on playing and not booking gigs will be a break for you.

Congrats.

you know...i think it's all relative. everyone's heard me bitch plenty about the sad state of affairs these days.

less places that even have music...and this bullcrap of having three or four bands sharing the bill and the door... chumps willing to haul equip and play for a pitcher of Bud Light, etc....

but ya know what... i just booked gig #16 for the month of April. and this in Mid MO. and SIX of those gigs are for a JAZZ BAND. my point....it can be done if your hustle, salesmanship, spiel, and the product you're selling is right.

straight ahead, boys. straight ahead. eye on the prize. 8)

Had a 3 hour rehearsal with the new band last night. Looking forward to gigging with them. The lead singer has very good range, pitch, and plays acoustic guitar pretty good.

It just occurred to me that most of the musicians on this discussion board are "those" kind of people. We seem to be the self-motivated leaders who are getting the gigs for the other musicians (who aren't here either)

Now I wonder how many of us are also singers? (because it's a verbal job)

Jeff, I'm staying about a half-hour away in Galveston on Friday night. Have an early gig on Saturday morning, but I might sneak out and go hear you guys.

I'm new at the rainmaking stuff, but it seems born of necessity - the work needs doin, so i do it. I sing too. coincidence I wonder? I did bring on a female vocalist to help me out though - she's working out great so far - now we can do some duet stuff and I can sing less which is a good thing :)

Thanks guys, come on out Ted. We are also playing a private party Saturday in Bayou Vista which is closer about 15 minutes away from you.
When I get video I'll post it Sir Jamsalot.
That's why Mark plays all those instruments, because he can't sing. :D

Hey Jeff...don't be giving away all my secrets, buddy!

And Mike...you know how you can tell a jazz gtrst from a rock gtrst? rocker plays a lead.....jazzer plays a solo! 8)

i'm off to a PJAZZ corp gig this evening. tonight it's three pc w drums, bass, and me on vibes and gtr w lots of solo time for me! well..the other guys too.

and tomorrow we're playing another one for the same folks but in our other three pc lineup drums, sax, and me on bass....i STILL get plenty of solos. but no singing for me either night...i leave that to the drummer.

so, jeff...when's your first gig w the new band?
