NOT ENOUGH MAJOR SEVENTHS!!!

NO SUPPER FOR YOU...NOW GO TO YOUR ROOM!

what i notice the absence of is the absence of 'release'.

nothing wrong tension.....and we all have different takes of how much tension or rub we like. quite subjective stuff there.

but i don't enjoy tension w/o release. i've got enough tension (not really all that much, thank you) in life so i don't seek it out or embrace in my listening choices.

when i came up w that progression of an Em7 to BbM7#11....that A section had some inherent tension to it so i decided to release some of that in the B section FM7 /Am7 /BbM7#11 /Bsus to B7
( w that common "E" note to all chords)

in your bit...i miss hearing a release (what MY ears and sensibilities call a release) and i also prefer hearing one or two hooks or some motif to hang my hat on.

you asked. 8)

jookeyman wrote:The whole premise of the progression thread was to check out how people approached it. That was the experiment. It wasn't a critique. It was an experiment to see how many different types of approaches you could get from the great variety of talent we have here. I gave you two. A tense one and a free one. That's the ends of the spectrum. Want another tune somewhere in the middle? I can do that too.

BTW- This was actually a dedication to you.

damn jook... you keep editing and adjusting that post so i thought i better "quote" it before it disappears entirely! :D

look, man...i think we have another miscommunication here. my comments about your "Snafu Swing" version of the project tune wasn't a "critique"!

you often talk about how you like to approach things ( and that's NOT a "critique"...just an observation and i'm merely just mentioning that!)

so....i took the opportunity to weigh in on how I hear things, and how I often (but not always) like to approach things. not a critique of your style, sensibilities, or playing.

the whole point of that "Who's Up For a Project" bit was indeed to hear the different approaches that people might come up with. so, i'm certainly not gonna "criticize" anyone's view and take on it. i might well "comment" on it though...and i might mention how i'd approach it differently. but none of that is about "this is how the song should go".

you mention that if i didn't like what you did you'd do another. hey, if you have another idea for a different approach...i'd love to hear it! but please don't do it because you want to make me happy by giving me something you think I'd play or come up with.

in one of those earlier versions of your reply you addressed "individuality" in music and that you don't/didn't copy anyone's style. (i'm paraphrasing so don't bust me if that ain't a word for word). and i agree, individuality is something i prize too. viva la difference!

i've said it before, but i'll say it again.....there were some cool and VERY different versions that those who participated in this "project" came up with, but your "Blues For Mexico" stands head and shoulders above the rest in terms of being wickedly creative. taking each chord and recording that as a "section" and later editing them together...wow, ABSOLUTE GENIUS!!!

two more things that i'll mention in two seperate posts.

the "project" was a pleasant surprise in that more people participated in it than i had expected. and i think it was most entertaining and interesting to hear what folks came up with.

...and jook and i got to do our first collaborificatin'! very cool!

but i was disappointed that others didn't jump in on it....dayne, ted, talbot, haley, slacker, glen, vamp, etc.

and i was also disappointed that RG didn't jump in.

it would have been interesting (and would still) to hear what you (RG) might have come up with....(same for the above non participants)

for those who missed it...RG and i have been going at each other in the latest go-round of Bandmix Turf Wars. ...and for the record i'm ready to let that BS go anytime.

but think about this RG....if you're not ready to move past that...wouldn't it be a great way to lift a middle finger to me by coming up w a great version of the progression??? 8)

(of course, it'd also be a good olive branch to move things along to a better place) :D

your move! :D

well, i dunno about 433162 of them...but i'm pretty sure one of them is too small and thin skinned to move on. get over it, man...or don't.

look, i tried the high road and put my hand out there to move on... and you're not interested but instead prefer to beef? no sweat... trust me, i'm not gonna lose any sleep either way.

Hey, don't lump everyone in with your petty feelings against Mark. Seems too many people in these forums have forsaken music for arguing. (obvious finger pointing ) And that total 'members' number is merely the number of people who created profiles on BM, not how many are currently active on these forums (which is a pitiful small number, most likely attributable to the constant bickering, name-calling and other buffoonery that happens here).

I've been meaning to post my latest mix of the chord progression project. Not much change from the original version, just getting it polished up now.

Mark

I didn't jump in because I'm over extended. Been in the middle of a medical situation with last procedure coming up Monday (thank God). I've been able to play my church band gigs and push hard on the sequel to first book . (marketing geniuses say you need two to push the plan I've bought into). Not much else though...

I really hate to promise and not deliver hence my reluctance to take anything else on until I believe I can cut it. I've only scratched at one new song since December...

Chances they say, are good for me to get back into my Mike Talbot superman persona long around May at which time I'll put on my tap dancing shoes again!
