been going thru some old cassettes and found a gig recording of PENTAZZ. 1985 at Dollar Bill's, a Black social club in Jefferson City MO.... this a group i used to play w back in the mid '80's.

fun gig...it was an early afternoon Sunday gig and the owner thought he'd like to try some music in that time slot. he didn't really promote and so we ended up playing for a handful of really cool, very well dressed ladies who came right from church!

i've put up a cpl of my tunes that we did that day. the first "Diminished Capacity" was written as pretty much of a challenge to see if i could write something that was built off of... can you guess??? ....a diminished vibe.

the other tune "Broken Metronome" is another instr of mine that alternates between 9/4 (compound time....5+4) and 7/4.

both can be found at https://soundcloud.com/planetguy-1

...first two tunes at top of page.

oh, man they were soooooo cool. i mean these ladies were into it! plus it didn't hurt that we'd do some out there instrumental and then follow it w a song by Al Green or James Brown.

hey, didja catch where we jumped into 7/4 at the end of "Diminished Capacity"??? yeah, i was big into odd time stuff back then and PENTAZZ was a group that had no trouble playing it.

Thanks for checking it out, buddy!

I got the coveted RGMix endorsement on one of my tunes, "Out of My Sight"the other day, and I am still stoked!.. :P and also very thrilled that jook likes "Royal Court".. it really makes a person's day to chime in if a person's music is being appreciated.. read something Ray Kurzweil said about the importance of having peer's positive opinions on your work.. something related to your thoughts actually build your brain.. your brain is built and wired by the thoughts you have.. not the other way around.. fascinating to say the least..

This is some heavy fusion stuff. I love how you're going to to toe with any grungy synth or overdriven guitar tone as the Dead/ Floyd/ Zappa would have in that time period.
Hope you post more of the set. 8)

This was also the first time I ever played w/ my fingers in an attempt to not overplay. The recording WAS in a large warehouse and the bassline has 2 semi-tones hence the name - 'Arabian Warehouse'. Starts off as sort of a Spaghetti Western thing and ends w/ a 'King Crimson' double-time break.

Part of this songs genius is its brevity. Nothing goes on too long. The hooks hold. Just before the song starts to sound the same, just before the acid-rock formula makes itself obvious, BAM, crashes to a halt and sends you on to a new trip. Back in the early days of Beaker Street Radio you would have fit in alongside of Quicksilver Messenger Service and Blue Cheer music.

Great stuff, P-Guy. Daggone shame it's against the law to play this type of music in public in Tampa. Sigh...

Been in here, but just to read--never left any comments. Used to be a dull forum, altho I did see a post a while back where someone was extolling the virtues of Audacity that was useful--paying for pricey set-ups and/or studio time kinda takes away from the enjoyment, even if the finished product is somewhat better. But the forum seems to have picked up quite a bit--lotsa folks actually talking about music, which is nice. I've become kinda interested in this crowd-sourcing thing; there's an appeal to collaborating w/ folks I've never met (and may never meet). But I suspect many/most are doing it for the $$ rather than the music. Sign o' the times, I guess.
