Now, that is an eclectic list!

Tangerine Dream in Nurnberg sounds uber-pschodelic.

I would have thought Jason Bonham would be a good show? But only a week ago I was trying to find the lyrics for "Money (that's what I want)" and ran across the absolutely worst song that Led Zeppelin ever did. Bonham had to be drunk when they recorded that? I always rated him my top drummer but that song showed how human and horrible he could be. I hope his son is not also alcoholic.

But thanks for confirming Aerosmith. They were my favorite American band until the album after "Draw The Line". I saw them 5 times before that and every single time was disastrously horrible. Tyler had no voice and kept pointing at the monitors like it was the sound guy's fault ( a technique I have borrowed in my past). Only Brad Whittington (2nd guitarist) could play anything like the record. For their sakes, I'm glad they went straight but their songs became formulaic pop after that.

Honesty, I had no idea who Scofield was until my son dragged me to see him in lower Manhatten 2007 (I think?) at Village Vanguard in Greenwich Village. Yep, quite a treat!

Looks like two people in this topic saw Montrose in the south, Georgia and Louisianna. Quite cool.

I never "got it" with Hot Tuna or the Grateful Dead.

That surprises me!?

Were they already falling apart by then?

.

I don't know. Could have been the greatest show ever (for the people in the right seats). The point is football stadium shows are bs. I got there for tickets really early and made it to the ticket window, cash in hand about 5-10 minutes after they went on sale. Still got the nosebleed seats. And I heard even the top 40 stations giving away tickets for that show. :x

Have you heard that album? It's like ambient music but without the excitement of techno.

Ted

That Montrose show was so good it still makes my teeth hurt to think of it. My brother threw up on a cop's shoes as we were leaving (sounds like a Bowie song) and the vibes were so good he let it pass and just said "you better not be driving!".

You've never heard of Rev. Gary Davis?? He was a blind Black Baptist preacher who got popular in NYC during the folk revival in the mid-60s. I do a LOT of his material. Good stuff!!

Was not really a fan of Hagar, except when he was with Montrose.

Hot Tuna is not Rev Gary Davis, is it? Always got them confused with Canned Heat.

Are you saying they covered a lot of his songs? I liked Kaiser-Mansfield "Trimmed and Burning" for covers of the Rev.

Best:
1. Deep Purple/ Uriah Heap- First major concert at the Swing Auditorium 1972- Epic!
2. Cal Jam II- Festival at Ontario Motor Speedway. Aerosmith, Santana, Heart, Foreigner, Ted Nugent, Dave Mason. 500,000 of my best friends joined us but we were still able to work our way up front for our favorite acts.
3. Santana/ Jefferson Starship at the Universal Ampitheater. Just an awesome California groove all night I will never forget.

Worst:
1. Fleetwood Mac at Glen Helen- Mick was stoned and the band was terrible. Epic fail.
2. REO Speedwagon at Citizens arena. The band played ok but it was 130db and my ears rang for a week after.
3. Al di Meola at the Roxy 1978. I was a fan of his albums but he didn't understand live music performance. He just stood there and played 16th notes at 180bpm flawlessly with no expression, no movement, no audience interaction. I actually fell asleep half way through. Boring as hell.

TSO was last concert I say and was great. The next 2 are about 30 years ago. Clapton in Conn. And probably David Bowie at the Garden Under the Moon Light tour. ( the Stones at Philly Tattoo you tour falls just short) as the best.
Worst I would say Ramons at Detroit in Portchester NY. Brain Adams in Conn. And The Pointer Sister at Jones Beach. They were really bad and such a poor show

Deep Purple rules! But I never got to see that original version. I saw the Glen Hughes Tommy Bolin version and even that was fantastic.

I can remember wanting to hitchhike from Texas to go see that one.

You just reminded me of 3 very boring concerts. Saw the English Invasion concert with Page, Clapton, and Beck. Clapton started and was OK, but when Beck came out he stood there like a bump on a log playing flawlessly but sooooooo utterly boring.

A few years later, I had front row for Clapton's Slowhand tour...and yea....fell asleep from the boredom.

Saw REO and it wasn't too loud...but it was too boring.

best:
1. Rolling Stones - Superdome New Orleans 1981
2. Jethro Tull- 1976? Minstrel In The Gallery tour Vets Auditorium Des Moines, Ia.
3. Iowa Jam II - 1974 ZZ Top was red hot!

worst: never experience a bad concert and probably went to at least 25 concerts at Vets Auditorium which is notorious for having bad acoustics

I found the Minstrel in the Gallery show kind of boring - saw it in Montreal. The Thick as a Brick show, on the other hand was fantastic.

Boring show - Dave Mason. Cape Cod Coliseum, 76 maybe? Heart opened and were great.
