"Anything that is too stupid to be spoken is sung."

I have read some dumb things on this forum, but honest to Christ-o this one almost takes the cake.

Dude, have you scanned history at all and read or heard some of the songs that changed history? Did you know much of the wisdom in The Baghavad Gita (sacred to Hindus) was sung? Did you know there is much evidence to suggest that the original Pentateuch (Bible) was sung? Did you know that almost all of the works of the great poet and seer Taliesin was sung - like his "Kanu Byt Y Mawr" (Song of The Greater World) or more importantly the Prophecies of Great Britain?

How about some of the protest songs of Bob Dylan or John Lennon that were instrumental in changing an entire generation, and a country's war?

I really really hope that "screamo" doesn't fry that part of your brain that's called the learning process.

Thats not what I meant by that line...Maybe I should rephrase it. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Can't say for "screamo" per say, but the best scream ever recorded, least of all for my money, was produced by Brother John Lennon , when he recorded "Well Well Well" anyways...

This thread seems to be shapin' up to be a polerisin' pissin' match betwixt the "Young Lionz" and the "Ol' Fartz". I'll be sittin' the rest of it out.

Hey, I resemble that remark!
Hey, I'm an old fart, why, I remember back in the days of the dinsaurs, when I was listening to a T - Rex screaming, and . . .
. . .
See, us old folks digress - we sometimes talk about stuff that was not really your point.
:)
But - hey - if you already know it - no sense in saying it again, eh?
.
As to your signature line, I just thought you were saying it tongue - in cheek. You know, as a kind of funny thing to say, with no real deep meaning . . .
S'ok.
(as an old fart to a young fart)
:)

I think that mischaracterizes the whole issue. I work with a 23 year old opera singer right now and she viscerally detests the whole screamo deal.

Clearly, it's not simply an age thing. It's a taste thing.

agreed, as a 23 year old who was rasied on all ranges of rock music, I find most screamo to be bland repitious uninspiring lines with out any real soul, and the supposed emotion gets lost between the clashing lines and feelings. that said the usual problem with screamo bands is the talented musicians in the band end up making sacrifices for the image, see dragonforce (saw them at a day show, even with only one lead guitar[upstate ny has crap boards] they were ...ok) but the singer reaching to hard for a iron maiden style voice ruined good music....thats often the problem, the vocalist has no real ability and just grunts it out, so craig I guess the best thing is to just keep sifting through all the waste of mewsick that roxorz for the few good bands that are out there

Thank you for bringing that up. Seriously, the whole age thing is overplayed and overemphasized. I know a 55 year old guy who is a Rave DJ and he does his thing at the big Burning Man deal every year and just CLEANS UP...

Screamo reminds me of an extention of what the average guitarist does at 18 - music is more "noise therapy" than it is music to them. A chance to emote and evoke. Scream it out. Act out. And that's all good, it's a phase that has a place in some peoples' lives. But at some point, you have to evolve and decide what you are doing.

I recall Tori Amos once saying, in an interview, that it would be cool to have a "Man Island" with men all screaming and acting out, beating their chests etc so people could take tours to the island and watch it, like a zoo...

I wouldn't want to watch that...Now if it was an island full of women, that would be a different story...

*Drops in for a comment.* Lol. Well, back onto screamo, huh? Yeah, I think it is alright in some context.

But as you were saying, Irminsul, it is just an extension of the untalented guitarist, bassist, drummer, or band, who needs to learn about music. The music I write (Which I am finishing up some of) has a lot of feel to it, in my opinion. When I play it I feel every note... It is important to me.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy. By the way, how is everyone? I have been absent for some time.

Irminsul, I try to be (Thanks for the compliment). I know I may not be the most talented... But, you know what, I feel the music, and that is what is important. I wrote this simple piece in Drop D tuning, very simple... And it speaks to me, it feels so deep into my soul.

Hard to explain. But music always is, it touches us all in different ways.

Peace, GuitarAnatomy.
