I was parked where this happened in Jaffe today.

http://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Confl ... ing-447246

It's the only free parking for miles, and Joe Biden was less than a mile from here too.

I had gone walking around with my VR camera taking shots of Jaffe (Yafo), the beach, wall-graffiti, and the park, then walked into the King George market in Tel Aviv for some food. Good thing I didn't stay close to the car.

Ted

Do you at least get to carry a blade? I know the Israelis aren't as wise as they should be about carrying guns.

I saw a few photos several years ago of Israelis carrying Uzis to work. They walked down the sidewalks w/ them strapped to their shoulders. This isn't common near the West Bank?

You can't go anywhere in Israel without seeing these beautiful kids with their enormous guns. I sense absolutely no fear anywhere in the land, but I have been carrying my camera stand strategically. The blues bar where I'm hanging in the evenings (Mike's) was packed like nothing had happened....only a mile down the road. In fact, that's where I found out something had happened. When I searched the story, I found out it had happened in the very parking lot I had been in only a few hours earlier. This isn't a big place, really.

I left that parking lot earlier to go shoot a VR of where David fought Goliath, and the Valley of Elah is not a big place either. I was within a football field of where it happened and had to go hiking down into the valley to find the brook where David got 5 smooth stones (because Goliath had 4 brothers).

Then dropped a friend off at the airport, headed back to Tel Aviv and dropped off the rental car. At the rental car office, I heard a radio report that mentioned something about "Philistine" but it's in hebrew and I didn't understand what they were saying. There were attacks in Jerusalem and Petah Tikvah today also.

Had I been keeping that car another day, I would have gone back to that same parking lot at the same time this was happening because it's the only free parking on the beach where I'm staying for another week. My hotel is right next to the US Embassy where security has been high because Joe Biden came in yesterday at about the same time.

And it's no more than a quarter mile from where I narrowly missed a suicide bomber at the Infinity Club (Dolphinarium) on June 1, 2001 because my ride was late picking me up. That one is still the worst terrorist attack of any intifada attacks.

Have you ever been to Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia, or Detroit?

Much much scarier

Getting more info now.

The terrorist started at the clock tower (where I was walking around with my camera a few hours earlier) and ran around the area stabbing people randomly for about a mile. He stabbed 14 people, including 2 muslim Palestinians and 4 American tourists, one of which has died.

But you'll love this....

Apparently it was a musician that slowed this guy down. A guy was sitting on the beach playing guitar and saw the terrorist running by with a knife. The guitarist chased him and down and broke his guitar over the guy's head. This slowed him down enough for police to catch up with him.

I'm staying in a small hotel by the water. They don't do free breakfast, but you get a voucher for the small restaurant attached next door to the left, but if you go to the right it's the American embassy.

Just a moment ago, I'm sitting outside having breakfast when an old arab guy walks by. He must have a huge tumor on his stomach because it was sticking out strangely. Right as he got to the front door of my hotel, 3 Embassy guards and 2 soldiers ran over and surrounded him. They spent 20 minutes searching him and checking his identity before telling him to turn around and go the other way.

The owner of the hotel just said that Israeli News is coming over to interview any American tourists staying here (I'm the only one today) to find out if we are afraid of coming to Israel.

Ha...they haven't seen the backstreets of Baltimore.

Interesting trip to Israel...again.

Well the news just keeps coming.

Checked my email and got a message from a friend in Coure d'Alene Idaho reminding me that I was booked into the church of the Pastor who was shot after the Ted Cruz rally. I never met the guy...their roof fell in from busted water pipes the day before I was to play and they cancelled.

Another weird coincidence.

Now the news is that the shooter was arrested at the White House. I wonder if I met that guy too?

I have to say you live an interesting life.
It is proof of a forgotten thought.
If you live life in fear, you will never live life.
Good for you Mr Yod, and God bless!

Much much scarier
in Chicago 1978 when Chumbley (in a hard rock band in Des Moines) and I took his van to Chicago to shop for snakeskin boots, believe we picked some up at The Pink Parrot a high end boutique for band Stage Clothes, I can remember almost side-swiping one of the "EL" wooden posts or "gantrys" cause they were narrow street passage in downtown Chicago.. never been to Baltimore or Philadelphia but when waiting for my military hop to Frankfurt Germany in Dover AFB I can recall cabbies by the dozens kinda like "chartered cabs" taking people to Phillie which was maybe 80 miles away.. never to Detroit, but would like to buy some vacant lots for dirt cheap and start a truck farm, Detroit has rich fertile soil.. LOL.. jimmie will love me for saying that.. :D

Didn't do the interview. Got tired of waiting and needed to do laundry. Not sure they ever showed up, probably found another tourist.

Was good to chill for a day. Those dirty clothes were stinking' up my room!?! Though I had rinsed my pants and shoes in the sink, they were as hard as concrete from the salt of the Dead Sea.

Headed to Ashkelon tomorrow to film the ruins of the building that Samson brought down at the end of his life. Then on to Jacob's seven wells in Beersheva. Maybe Ashdod and Arad the next day. This virtual tour is going to be complete and amazing when I'm done. I've gotten every place you could think of except Eilat. It's too far south (8 hours) so I'll get it next time.

Doing a VR music video in Jerusalem Sunday of a Persian band with a hip-hop singer and a folk/punk girl that won Israel's version of "The Voice"

oy, 4 more days of this...

Speaking of 'bad to the bone..." One Israeli guy came staggering out of a pub with a knife in his neck and said something along the lines of "bastard stabbed me!"

He pulled the knife out of his neck, went back inside and killed the terrorist with his own blade.

I'll buy that guy a drink any day of the week!
