It's very important to start off with the right equipment from the start. Without good equipment you and the band will get discouraged very quickly. PA system stage presence and sound will make or break your band on the first few gigs. The system I posted above can be expanded with more amplifier's, speakers, sub-woofers, monitors and microphones a piece at a time and still maintain the high quality of sound and dependability. Some people do not like the PEAVEY name but rest assured with the new lineup they can compete with JBl speakers.

i'm not familiar w their new lineup but that's true.....a lot people look down their noses at PEAVEY, but most working musicians who've been out there in the trenches understand that PEAVEY stuff is bulletproof!

at the truckstop we use a 30 yr old PEAVEY XR600 for our monitors. that bad boy has been getting it done 6 nights a wk for YEARS w/o ever breaking a sweat. you can snag them on C-list for $200 or so. excellent bang for the buck.

there's an old joke that the only thing remaining after total nuclear annihilation will be cockroaches, keith richards, and PEAVEY equip!

$400 total, you can plug the mic right into the speaker. When/if you get moving with the band, add a mixer, another speaker, etc.

another company that many sneer at is Behringer. i have one of their little UB1002 mini mixers....10 channels in a 5" x 6" 3lb case. fine piece of equip that i believe i bought new for $70!

one of those, a powered spkr, and a mic or two and you're good to go!

Here is my new favorite gig rig for PA or powered wedge monitor. One of these and a mic and you can gig a band. Two of these and you are 6db louder with excellent sound and coverage. Add any mixer in the future, no problem. It has a fairly sophisticated onboard mixer/eq section and just sounds great. We currently use one as a floor wedge with good results. High end sound quality, low $$$.

alright...since it's been "proved" that i'm a troll....i gotta get in on this Peavey but.

i've played several Peavey basses from the 70's and 80's.....and i've had three students who played Peavey Dyna Basses. they were all high quality instruments w excellent build quality and great sounding p/u's!

those Dyna-basses had necks that were a little skinny for my tastes (i'm an old school P Bass guy)....but bang for the buck???? very impressive.

i've not played that many of their gtrs from that era....but the few T30's and T40's i did play were players. super butt ugly...but players none the less.

i was playing in a house band back in the early mid 80's w two very good gtrsts both using Fender gtrs and amps. one night some older guy shows up to sit in w us (i think the drummer knew him) and he sets up some Peavey amp and pulls out a T40......and his tone(s) just smoked the other gtrsts!


as for their amps....i used to have a Classic 30 (and older tweed model) and i wish i still had it. great little amp...it was basically a one trick pony...but it sure did it well. they're also great harp amps!

and for pedal steel???? i think i've only played w maybe one guy who DIDN'T use that Peavey combo w the 15". sorry, i forget the model....but it is pretty much THE amp for steelers.

That'd be either Peavey "Nashville 400" or a "Session 400" ... both popular with pedal steelers.

One old amp I wished I'd had the money for back then - in 74 I traded my old Traynor bass amp (50w head, 2x12 cab) to a guy for a 50 watt Marshall + 4x cab, but I need to come up with $250 cash, too. I took off for college, with the amp at my buddy's house. The guy doing the trade, wanted his cash, so my buddy paid him off, but kept the Marshall himself. I got the Fender Bandmaster Reverb head + 2x12 cabinet I eventually sold off a few years ago. Got 'OK' $$ for the amp, would have got a lot more for it if I hadn't cut holes in the front of it for a 4" speaker and box fan - and if I'd put $150 of new tubes into it. But that Marshall .....
