Hey thom, Listened to Soil, and have to go a little bit against the grain, but not much. As far as the Queensryche sound goes, I love it! I hated what spandex metal did to the entire genre and we never really got a good dose of the progressive side of metal.
As far as the bass, yeah, it's drowned, needs more pronouncement.
Guitar solo, sounds like something I would do; and being my own worst critic, would say (just like me) it goes from slow, to fast, to medium, to slow, with no real "flow". It's a hurdle I'm also struggling with, so I feel the pain on that one.
And now, the vocals...
Yes, you sound way too much like Hetfield in this song. The pronounciation of the 'MEEEE-YAH' made me think of just how sick of Hetfield I am and it really was the steak through the heart for this song. I envisioned a dokken'esque vocal line upon hearing the rhythm and just don't think the growling vocals matched the song itself. (the vocals in the beginning of Sacrafice were a good match, but then went to 'growling' too)
I listened to the other stuff you posted, love the 'o holy night' LOL, great song.
Other than that, most of the 'growling' vocals aren't my thing, but I'm old-school metal and probably "getting old" as today's kids constantly tell me...
Overall, you got some good stuff there. It's all better than anything I've ever recorded, so take my critique with a grain of salt hehe.
