Gary..
i have some good memories of musically entertaining times when i was in the fayetteville/springdale/rogers area. perhaps back in the day before you walked the planet....the early '80's.
i can only remember playing bentonville one time......it was a fun and entertaining wkend doing a Holiday Inn lounge gig.... playing bass, and accompanying a very colorful piano player....and riding to the gigs w his very colorful wife sitting in my lap as we drove about an hr or so to the gigs from fayetteville.
the less colorful story that i'll share about that wkend....keys man (playing a well tuned Rhodes and singing pretty good cocktail jazz) we'll him call "Chris" (cos that's like his name and all), well, despite being an OK guy, Chris could be a little hard to be around if ya didn't know him better.
anyway...he'd been playing at this place solo for awhile, and he convinced the owner ( a real jazz cat who knew his $hit) to go another Benjamen ea night to have a bass player there. so, chris warns me that "this guy can be a real hump sometimes....don't let him bug you".
we arrive about two min before we're supposed to start, and the three of us pile out of the little Chevy Luv p/u.
as we're hauling our sh*t in, and getting me introduced to the owner, Chris tries to impress the guy ...so he's like gonna like distract him or deflect from the fact that we just blew in two min before we're sposed to start or sumptin...."hey i dig that Paul Desmond ya got playing!"
.....well, it wasn't anything even remotely close to sounding anything like desmond. and i felt bad for my boy chris.
the owner looks at him like he's some kind of a bug ,and explains loudly for any and all to hear "that ain't DESMOND!". then, he asks me if i know who it is..."yeah, that's art pepper playing "Tin , Tin, Deo" (a song i'd been listening to since i was a little scrapper!).
well, doncha know...i had me a buddy now! and before i even got set up, he personally comes across a good sized room to deliver me a fine single malt (that was a long time ago...i forget what it was).
and for the rest of both nights, everytime i was on my last sip he or the waitress is there w another! bringing nothing for Chris!
Chris and i were both laughing at it (well, maybe me MORE so than him, truth be told!) and at the end of Friday night in front of Chris he hands me MY $100, and shakes my my hand telling me how much he enjoyed my playing and that's he looking fwd to tomorrow.
On the way home Chris tells me he's never paid him on fri, but always takes care of it at the end of sat's gig (like you'd expect.) yeah, it was kinda childish the way guy was trying to stick it to Chris but it was also funny because C, his wife, and i were all able to laugh about it.....and truth be told i really did enjoy talking music w the guy.
he was from that area but had spent a lot of time on the west coast in the 60's and 70's and really knew music. it was one of many good lessons to be learned for a transplanted 22 yr old NY'r with ideas about what to expect from Arkies!
i met and played w some really good musicians while there.
anyway, good luck w the drummer quest. this might not be the best place to expect response from (as in drummers avail in your area)....as for "responses" from long winded musicians telling war stories.....no shortage of them here!
you might do better doing a BM search for drummers in your area.

Bon Chance!
