i didn't formally map it out when laid i down the first track (rhythm gtr on my Mac copy), so when it came to time to overdub upright and mando, i just tried to fly by the seat of my pants and feel it out. easier to do on the mando (playing melody) as the bass line had to (try to) nail it!
FINALLY FOUND IT!
i mixed it down yesterday along w another little throwaway version where i was just setting up getting levels and mic placement together. so it's a little rough timewise in a cpl of spots ....but it least it stayed in 4/4 all the way thru so i really have no excuses for my slop!
bass is a '38 KAY C-1, gtr is a PARIS SWING GG42 Grande Bouche (big mouth), and the mando is an '88 Flatiron A5 Jr.
i also got off my behind yesterday and did some overdubbing on Jook's version of the progression per his invite to do so. he calls his version "Blues For Mexico" ...he's playing the ac gtrs on it.
on his first version that's on my soundcloud page, i overdubbed a bass part on my zebra wood P Bass body w '66 FENDER fretless neck and p/u's.
on the second version of his "BFM" i overdubbed a vibes part. i was too lazy to set up mics so just took a direct line off the vbs using it's pickups.
both bass and vibes were plug 'n' play first takes.
you can find all four versions here:
