Will check it out. Funk for me is a mixed bag.

Of course, I have it listed as one of my four genres I play, because F those four genres.
I don't want to say I'm punk, metal or classic rock, because of the great unwashed horde of posers out there when I browse through my city's offerings on bandmix.
Why bring them right to my door?

Funk is tricky for a guy my age, because we learned it from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Currently trying not to suck at it, myself. I always play guitar with a wah. If someone told me I could only add one pedal to my basic guitar and amp set up, that's my "desert island effect". Am I any good at it? You be the judge!
I love to use it to filter out each note and chord when I'm playing my heaviest stuff. I have to do something to make my music stand out. I play so damn slow!

where's my check, beeeeyotch? hehehe. not sure what i did, but thanks for the shout out.

This is the first time I've played lead on my 335 in over 10 years. I'm a bit rusty, but my hand is loosing up and I'm having fun again, thanks to Billy. His drumming has really inspired me and I love him like a brother for offering me the chance to get back into the game. My 335 was in the back of the closet in a case gathering dust and yes, the strings are 10 years old!
I hope you enjoy this. Crank it up so the neighbors can hear it. This is straight from NOLA.

that "billy" is quite the all around musician...this site is a better place having him on board. and while i'm spreading da love around, that goes for you too, jook....thanks to you, there's actually some music being discussed around these parts. mucho gracias. 8)

Schmedy- the RHCPs aren't a funk band. I keep hearing this and reading this everywhere I go. Just because a cat slaps on a bass doesn't make it funk.

Yeah, that was my point.
jookeyman wrote:When funk started, there were no electric basses. The 'bass' was played on a tuba.

I'd like to hear that.
jookeyman wrote:Bass slapping didn't start until Larry Graham showed up on the scene in the late 60s.(unless I'm missing someone?)

That too!

Thanks, Nigel. That drummer split. Flaky. In name and spirit. New drummer is a novice, but at least he gives a crap. :D

Cool video. Does that bandleader have... Normal... Feet?!

Loving the track, Jook. I can listen to stuff like this by Los Lobos/ The Latin Playboys all day.
