Journey hired their new singer off YouTube. This guy was in a local band. They uploaded some of their clips to YouTube and developed some buzz.

Journey's guitarist Neal Schon, was looking around YouTube cause they hadn't found a replacement for the last singer, who was leaving the band.

He came across a YouTube video of Arnel Pineda singing some Journey songs, and Journey called him up. He didn't believe it at first. But after they flew him to the states to audition, he not only believed it, but he is now the new front man for Journey!

Dreams sometimes do come true fellas!

His "former" band is still playing covers in bars.

Had to throw that in there before you guys come back with "See Craig, cover bands can make it!"

LMAO!!!

I think it's great but it will run it's course and when the WWW isn't free anylonger and congress get their paws deep in the flesh of it's soul then the REVOLUTION will be in full force. Trust me that's the way of our capitalist government (no offense I am truely patriotic and a realist). The Labels will throw money in the pockets of our senators, the senators will create a smoke screen of Terrorsits accessing the heart of our nation via the internet or something like that and the restrictions will start along with online music and then the madness and control will become another circus show.

But until then, I praise the artists who are capitalizing on this. A long overdue smack in the face to the labels who have lived off of, taken advantage of, and taken for granted the value of the artist.

It wont be long term though, when it come to greed the powers that be will stop at nothing to ruin a great idea and keep it for themselves.

PEACE!
Thom

Good for the web, good for NIN. Anything that rams molten rebar up the asses of that bloated record industry is good for me.

You never know. I have my stuff on several sites. No, Journey hasn't called me yet dammit! but I have been contacted by some great bands looking for a guitar player from the other sites. Even though I'm not a paid account holder here and can't be contacted through here I've had people see my stuff here and look me up in the phone book and call me. I do regret passing on one band though. They have a killer sound and I still listen to their music. Ah well, I'll just keep waiting.

Yeah, that dude's got pipes.

If anyone hasn't seen it yet, here is some video of Arnel Pineda with his new band Journey, performing friggin' sold out venues all over the place!

I tell you what. This kid deserves it. He grew up poor in the Philippines. His mother died at 35 putting the family in debt. He raised money collecting garbage. His father sent him to live with relatives, and he recounts watching them eat meals and waiting to see if there would be anything left over, when they were finished eating. Some relatives huh?

Good for him.

He deserves it!
