Jook. In response to your question, "Can we have a sane conversation?"

No.

These are good fellows but they are still enjoying the "Normalcy Bias." The left and and what passes for the right these days amuse themselves by taking shots at Democrats and Republicans as these party designations made any difference.

I guess it feels good to pretend you are part of a team, and if your team wins, all will be golden.

If one looks are the reality of politics from spans of ten years or more - it soon becomes obvious that the parties both serve the same masters. Nothing changes. Vote for the puppet of your choice.

We are rushing headlong to war now and only two candidates out of all those jackasses from both parties think that war with Russia might just be a bad idea.

Jook, that's not gonna happen on this forum, or maybe even anywhere else. I just stay out of it. I used to mix it up. Someone suggested we stop, so I did. They all kept going at it, including the one who suggested we stop.

The only answer I see to the questions you pose are simple.
It's Thanksgiving day and people have forgotten the reason why pilgrims risked so much to find FREEDOM.
FREEDOM, such a foreign word. Let me explain in simple terms once again. It is the reason for Americas greatness and Americas decline...

To have FREEDOM... Every member of society must have TREMENDOUS personal responsibility and TREMENDOUS tolerance... Of course that is in a perfect society. Think deeply about that.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Maybe instead of asking if there are "political moderates",
You should be asking if there are "melodical pirates".

Hope this helps.

jookeyman wrote:First off, I may be stepping in over my head here. There seem to be extreme political views on this forum I do not understand.
1.) I abhor all politicians. I believe they are all self-serving hypocrites, regardless of party.
2.) They are all fat and rich. How can they relate to the common man on the street?
3.) They will not tax themselves. See #2 for further explanation.
4.) Both sides want to take but no one wants to give.
5.) Whatever became of moderation in thought and deed? In politics and religion?

Moderation was recognized by the ancient Greeks as a healthy approach to life. It is still recognized by modern psychology as a path toward 'normalcy'. Thinking in extreme terms can lead to disastrous results. Can we have an adult conversation on this subject?

I am 100% in agreement with your views, especially politicians. Being partisan for an ideology isn't nearly as dangerous as being partisan for a political party. Like you, I either dislike or hate ALL politicians. My strategy for voting is picking the most decent person (or least liar) for the job, regardless of their ability to be suave in public.

Goofy statements from politicians don't bother me nearly as much as a habitual lying tongue, no matter how slick they are in pulling it off.

Character should matter, but it doesn't because Americans have greatly lowered standards nowadays. That is why we keep voting for low-lifes to be our representatives. They do represent us.

But writers/artists/musicians are the conscience of any society, so I think strong (even extreme) opinions from musicians is to be expected. Rock music was the vehicle that brought enormous cultural change, maybe even the catalyst for America's fall from grace.

This is the only discussion group I visit anymore because of that. I prefer discussing these topics with people who disagree with me, even if they have extreme views, as long as they are intellectually honest. I think we get that here mostly...
