Thanks for the advice. That's why I am a paid Bandmix member, to learn about stuff I don't know. Thanks again.

I have done it, but I would rather be face to face in the studio recording.
It's cool for writing and throwing ideas off one another, but I won't record like that. I don't get the same "feel" or enjoyment from it.

It sounds like fun but I think i'm gonna have to get a real job. I dont at this juncture have thecomputer / electronic skills to do more than frustrate others. Does anyone know how to turn this thing off?

One thing you need to agree on before collaboration, is what happens afterwards.
...............
> If you wrote the song, (music and lyrics), and they only just sang it, what happens when you find the song on a music page that the other person didn't tell you about, and it says that the song is by them?
.
Is that ok with you?
.
> You wrote the music. They wrote the lyrics. They are selling the song.
.
Is that ok with you?.
.
> You wrote the music. They wrote the lyrics. YOU are selling the song.
.
Is that ok with THEM?
.
> You wrote the music, and agreed to use it with the lyrics they sent you.
Then you find your recording of the music with a completely different set of lyrics on it.
.
Is that ok with you?
.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
There's a lot of other things that can happen, I don't really feel like getting into it, though . . .
.
I'm just telling you that before recording, you need to do 3 things:
.
1) Think and plan thoroughly, by yourself.
2) Talk - and be fair about it
3) Agree on everything.
.
There should be no problems.
If there is - move on.
Internet musicians are a dime a dozen; 25 cents for a hundred . . . so there's plenty to go around . . . be sure you're matched up.

Chances are pretty slim that an on-line collaboration will make any substantial money. If you wrote the song and lyrics and I sang the song I would be happy to just get credit for being the vocalist and/or bass player on the song. If by some miracle the piece makes a bunch of money then a fair minded inividual should send some money (whatever percentage they feel is fair). I wouldn't sign any contract on something like this. It would be fun to try it (and I would be willing to try it). It would obviously make sense if the song and lyrics are your own you would copywrite it before doing any on-line collaboration. Anyway if we can't find a guitarist soon I probably would become available for on-line collaboration some time in the future. Later...

I have disappointed with online collaboration, but mostly for reasons deriving from my choice of music. You can find tons of people wanting to exchange rock/blues/pop parts, but anything else outside of that realm - you'll be out of luck. Maybe this will change with time, who knows.

You know you are so right on the styles of music that are mostly being collaborated. I have collaborated on blues/rock/metal but none others. MySpace has alot of artists / people that work on those styles of music and have been actively doing it with different people for a long time. That's the excitement for me, not always the same people and style of work, but I havent heard of any other music styles ....I think I will look into that. Thanks

Nothing mysterious about it . . .
You decide on who does the mixing, then one person emails the 1st track, and another person emails a track back.

Dustin you basically decide who will contribute what parts and who will be mixing, then record your parts as high quality WAVs, make an mp3 version for reduced transfer size, and send them to the mixer. When all parts are working, the individuals send in the final WAVs for final mixdown.

Oh, and don't forget to use the BPM (beats per minute) indicated in the file name so everyone is time synced.
