The Racial Executive Order Obama Just Issued Might Be His Biggest Overreach Yet

The Fair Housing Act was a piece of do-gooder legislation designed for what seems like an admirable goal — to eliminate discrimination in finding housing.
Now, through an executive order, the Obama administration is seeking to use it to drastically remap America, forcing communities to increase their numbers of minorities or lose federal funding.
It could also require Section 8 housing for low-income families to be moved into high-income suburbs.
The new rules, which the administration unveiled Wednesday, aim to “rid the country of racially segregated neighborhoods by directing cities and towns to set goals for reducing segregation.”
Sounds harmless enough, until you look at it more closely.
A series of questions will be asked of communities to determine “whether racial bias is causing segregated neighborhoods, racial or ethnically concentrated areas of poverty, unequal access to opportunity or disproportionate housing needs in their jurisdiction.”
If it sounds like those questions are meant to be answered in the affirmative, you’re right. The administration says that it will require towns and cities to set goals for increasing minority residency numbers and then report on their progress publicly “every three to five years.”
“This is the most serious effort that HUD has ever undertaken to do that,” Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro told reporters. “I believe that it’s historic.”
HUD will compile all of the information into a searchable database, where assumedly suburb-shaming can begin.
The new rule comes on the heels of a Supreme Court decision that stated that any housing policy that affects minorities can be targeted in a lawsuit under the Fair Housing Act, even if the intent wasn’t racial in nature, according to The Daily Caller.
Even in light of the Supreme Court decision, this is a major overreach, which could force massive redistricting and massive unintended consequences of its own, including disruption or destruction of entire communities. Nevertheless, since it pleases the base, it’s become law by fiat.
Just another day in Obama’s America.
