I've been really pumped about getting into a band or starting one, I've been getting a lot of responses from ads here, and craigslist and stuff. and I get an email where someone seems all pumped up to get together, and then after I reply...

nothing

I've been out of the music circle since the early 90's, but it seems like there's a lot more flakes these days...

There's been a few notable good contacts, but few is the key word.

sorry for the rant, had to get that off my chest!

Yeah, I feel ya. Maybe we should seek out a support group. The only thing worse than people flaking from the beginning is people flaking after you've got a decent start. :x

Kramerguy,
Get used to it.
.
The thing is, it seems like almost everyone JUST wants to talk about it.
Oh, and they talk just fine too.
They almost make you believe their BS.
.
Yep, sometimes they almost convince me that they're something other than just another talker.
. . . but not very often . . .
.
See, I talk with them, and it sounds like we're in the same groove, and everything. You might even send several emails first, checking things out, to be sure of them.
Then - as soon as you go to set up a time to meet, and PLAY . . . they disappear.
.
Man, there sure a a lot of posers around . . . what they hell do they all get out of it, - just making believe that they're musicians or singers?
.
I've got a feeling that I've been talking to several FANs, and very few real musicians . . .
.
Some fans they are - all they ever do is piss you off . . .
.
As soon as you ask them to "put up or shut up," - well, what do you know?
They shut up.
. . .
And - good riddance . . . don't call me. And, you better believe that I certainly won't call you back, either.
.
Anyway - keep ranting, man, it's OK. I know how you feel.

But don't be so surprised, anymore. And, don't waste time on these people, man. Play your instrument, instead . . .
.
I suggest you ask them what their actual experience is . . .
Don't waste time on these people, man . . .
Set up something with them, if you must, but then . . . FORGET about them.
Just forget about them.
.
Maybe 1 out of 12 of them will actually show up and be worthy of you, man.
If that should happen, then consider it a pleasant surprise. . . .
.
Otherwise, be content talking to fans, also known as 'posers' . . . .

sanshouheil,
Yeah, no music posted, but read what says on his page. He's been out of it, and wants to get back in. He doesn't make any big claims or anything.
Sounds like he's just starting out again.
I'll give him a break.:)

!!! No, no studying! Actually, I have been reading lately, which is a rare thing for me to do, so be happy, lol.

Yeah, I have nothing on my page, I have no photos, I have no music, and I have barely any experience... But I do have my drive and that is all I need right now.

I am not looking, personally, for musicians who are overly experienced, I want them at, or around, my level. But yeah, it is only logical since I have not been playing a while. If I was playing 10 years I would be looking for someone close to my level so I do not end up teaching them how to actually play - that does not mean I mind showing people how to play a song, or a cool technique, or a different style of music, that is a different matter.

Music means a lot to me, I love my guitar. I hope to continue playing for many years to come, or just forever, lol.

Peace, GuitarAnatomy.

Don't flake out, that was a brilliant response to all the whining. I respect that you had the balls to tell the truth.

.
Ahh . . . don't pay us no mind.
:)
Some of us just get moody, sometimes that's all . . .
:)
I think my point was more about people doing what they say they will do, and about people being up-front and honest.
.
Anyway . . .
You made some great points.
And in the end - it's all about making the music.
. . .

You have different levels of artists here, and you have artists with different goals here.

You will find guys that just want to jam privately for fun. There are others who are looking for something more serious than that. And still others, who are VERY serious about music, and are looking to accomplish something with it.

There is no "wrong" in any of that. Everyone has their own agendas.

I wouldn't call it whining. The ones that complain about guys showing interest and copping out, are probably the ones that are VERY serious about music, and maybe even hope they can do it full time.

When you put your being into something that completely, it is disappointing and frustrating when it is hard to find others who share the same goals, and aren't willing to make the same sacrifices. And I agree with Joe, that it is WORSE when you are starting to make things happen and a band member flakes out. It's like starting over almost, when you have put so much time, money and energy into it, to get it this far.

It's a bitch! But the determined will keep going. And the most persistent, despite any setback, usually find themselves more successful in the end, than the ones who quit. Those latter guys, just seem to float from band to band.

No offense taken!

I actually DO want to upload something too, my problem is that I have *just* enough of the "visionary" in me that nothing I've recorded so far is good enough, I'm my own worst critic, and worst enemy hah.

I decided to use the Floyd cover for my avatar just to convey the depth of music I hope to achieve (someday). Soon as I get back on stage, I will get a pic with my Kramer (heh, go figure) for all to see.

Thanks for ALL the support guys, I thought I was just venting... I had no idea that the problem was so wide spread!

you know... I do have an mp3 of a demo I recorded.. just guitar, fake drums, and bass, but what the hell... I will upload it... Since you guys are so awesome
