****NYC AREAS ONLY...............READ THE AD CAREFULLY & LISTEN/SEE THE AUDIO & VIDEOS BEFORE RESPONDING WITH E-MAIL ADDRESS, DETAILS, PICTURE & PERFORMANCE LINK****

The definitive longest-running Hendrix show whose guitarist periodically tours with the Billy Cox band & was a member of Jimi's official fan club is seeking a flashy bassist/background singer, age 35+ who looks similar to Billy Cox (for the "Band Of Gypsies" portion of the show).

MUST ALSO SING BACKGROUND VOCALS

Seeking a good-looking RELIABLE bassist IN THE NYC AREAS ONLY who plays similar to Victor Wooten/Marcus Miller, meaning someone who knows the fretboard, can tap, funk out & rock out when needed BUT has a steady bottom, drug free, looks like a rocker & sane.

Unlike ANY OTHER Hendrix show, this is a HIGHLY musically progressive concept with Jimi's music, while retaining the high-energy level & SOUND of the original 'Jimi Hendrix Experience'/'Band Of Gypsies' fronted by a former major label performer who knows Jimi's music better than anyone~!!!!

Live videos & studio MP3's (all instruments/vocals performed by the performer): www.reverbnation.com/voodoochildreview.com

We would prefer someone who is looking for this to be their 'vehicle' rather than just a mercenary.

Reply with performance site link, current photo & your E-mail address.

YOU MUST:

........Know The Songs (especially the "Band Of Gypsies" tunes)
........Be reliable
........NOT just stand still onstage
........NOT be bald
........Have transportation
........Be a progressive bassist & sing background vocals

How many of these do you need to be eligible? I might have trouble with the 'sane' part and 'drug free' could be an issue. But my ass is steady! 8)

when you say, must NOT be bald, does having a receding hairline count?

I'm actually used to the 'comedic' responses over the years of advertising for this show & it sometimes makes me think maybe I should respond in a similar manner to the ads I find on Craig's List, Backpage & other sites which seek musicians with a specific skin color, ethnicity, etc....Maybe I'm missing out on all the fun, but then again I get off on more sensual pursuits~!!!!

Seriously tho'.....My stage show is divided into 2 parts......the 1st part consists of me fronting 2 WHITE musicians as "The Experience" (Umm, last time I checked, Jimi had 2 White guys in his early breakout career), then later in the set I front 2 BLACK guys as the "Band of Gypsies" (which if I remember, was all Black).

I, myself, don't play racial games with musicians or music. I play with/have played with musicians who play their asses off from countless ethnicities & that's all that matters to me. I'm sure if I were to audition or respond to an ad for let's say a Zep, Beatles, Yes tribute that presented their show AUTHENTICALLY , I would be told I'm the wrong color no matter how good I was & I would be ok with that big time.

i never thought for a moment that your requirements were in any way racist. i doubt anyone here thought that either. more to the point (at least speaking for myself) it's more of a reaction to the "tribute" aspect.

i know there is an audience for that thing. people paying big money to see people dressed up and actually resembling the band members of their favorite groups. even playing the same instruments.

i always found that pretty goofy and bordering on necrophilia. it actually creeps me out as i see it as one half step removed from Elvis impersonators.

i dig the Beatles, Zep, and Hendrix tunes enough so when they're well played by bands, i really prefer NOT being distracted by someone playing dress up trying to look like them.

i don't mean that as a put down of what you do...just how i feel about it.

I'm sure if I were to audition or respond to an ad for let's say a Zep, Beatles, Yes tribute that presented their show AUTHENTICALLY , I would be told I'm the wrong color no matter how good I was & I would be ok with that big time.

"AUTHENTICALLY"....hmmm, interesting way of looking at that.

yeah, were it a "tribute band" that dressed up in costume i'd agree...you'd need the look. but if you're talking about a band that plays tribute TO a particular band (like DEAD GUITARS on this site) ......it's more about the music and less about the look and presentation.

again....not trying to diss ya. more power to you if you're loving this and making a good buck....i suspect you are.

good luck w the hunt. 8)

Thanx for the clarification & the good luck wishes Planet. You made some good points & having traveled all over the world, that's why I luv being an 'American'. The different points of views can sometimes be quite insightful.

Regarding the racism thingie......ohh yea......I've received at least 5 e-mails pertaining to race from guys on this site alone since posting the ad....but again, that's America for ya as well as folks just not reading the ad carefully.

Regarding the authenticity.......there is a HUGE market for tribute bands, especially touring bands. Some of them make tons more $$$ than original bands, signed & unsigned. Having shared the stage with authentic looking/sounding tribute bands doing Yes, Beatles, Van Halen, Cream, Zep, Metallica, Floyd, Deep Purple, White Snake to name a few, I can emphatically state that the musicianship of these particular bands is just as good or in most cases far exceeds the band they're imitating. I believe this is because not only the 'bar' being raised for musicians today, but these cats I played with were 'hungry' indeed~!

Usually the audience for tribute bands are made up of people who didn't have a chance to really witness these bands & are kind of re-living that era. Being a musician trained at the high school of Performing Arts NYC (the "Fame" school) & Berklee, I am truly a performer who plays for the audience first as opposed to playing for musicians. With my Hendrix show it's definitely more about a flashy way of showcasing 'commercial pop fusion' (which is really what Jimi's music was).......That's why he attracted to him musicians like Miles, Rashaan, Sun-Ra, Larry Coryell & others~!!!

Welcome, Mr Bleu. Were you born a lefty, or did you switch to play Hendrix?

TheFarleys wrote:Band of Gypsys was a contractual obligation to Capitol Records, not really something Jimi wanted to do. After that it was Mitch Mitchell and Billy Cox, arguably his best band.

Are you sure about that?

There is a really cool documentary on Netflix that portrayed it as Jimi really wanting to do something different for an album so he got with his army buddy, Billy Cox, and then they got Buddy Miles because they wanted to have a band of all "Brothas"

Anyone seen that documentary? Really good.

I had a tape called Soundtrack Recordings in high school. It had a lot of my favorite versions of many Hendrix tunes. My sister lost it! :x
Anyway, that's what a lot of people from his family and inner circle were talking about on the dialogue sections of the tape. That Jimi wanted desperately to connect with black folks and felt that by ditching the Experience, he could do it.

Hi There Schmedidiah........Thanx for the welcome. I was born lefty & actually when I 1st attended Berklee, my teacher begged me to change the strings to standard lefty (big 'E' on top), saying that eventually I would get more into jazz & classical then some chordings would be impossible but I refused, telling him "I would have to start learning all over again & yall are gonna kick me out~!!!". I hate 'shoulda, woulda, could'ves', but he was absolutely right & now that I'm older, I wish I would've at least taken standard lefty lessons on the side. Jimi played both ways top-level but preferred the standard lefty.

The Farleys.............Jimi absolutely hated the way the album turned out (it's mostly spliced together) as well as his playing on it, but it was already something he was working on before the gig. I am Billy Cox's musical director/guitarist/singer when he tours & Billy talks about that period quite fondly, often disclosing info that isn't in the docs or books. According to him, Buddy & Chas (both of whom I also spoke to), Jimi wanted the BOG simultaneously with the "Experience" along with Stevie Winwood on kys/guitar for 1 or both of these projects if possible.
