Depends on a lot of factors, bro. All ages are welcome to sing the blues....but after that, not so much. Face it, the world is looking for young and beautiful.

Doesn't mean you can't work, or have no value, if you don't happen to be one or both of those. By now you do it because you can't stop....or you would.

It's only "age discrimination" when they audition you and then say "you're too old". A lot of 20-somethings have 'big dreams' of getting famous, touring the country etc. They 'know' that an older player who has home/family/commitments isn't going to be into that. They're also afraid that an older person will try to 'take charge' and control what they do.
When I was 18, I never expected to see age 30 and anyone older than that was just an old f*ck.

age discrimination sux, but then you have sexual orientation discrimination too, the LGBT band that is always looking for a guitarist, said I did not have a gay enough countenance.. Ted was right afterall.. :D

hahaha...you doubted me?

A solo artist at age 22 is already too old for a record company. Not that record companies count anymore, but the reasons are many.

I've been looking for a band for many years, and actually have one that I like but they're spread out over the world and we can only get together about one month a year (or less). They are all young guys because old farts just have too many stubborn ways to deal with. Youngsters don't expect as much money and are a lot more energetic, more fun, often they are even better players because they have the past and the current down, and they are a lot more exciting for an audience to watch. Plus you can get a few more years out of them than the old guys.

Old guys are usually only interested in doing 3 -5 gigs in a month, or they have to go home too much to make expenses work.

For musicians youth is extended a little bit...around 30 seems to be a good mix of experience vs youth...but I prefer them in the late 20s up to about 33? If I were a rock band, 29 would be the cutoff age.

It takes a certain kind of fool...

key word there being "ex"

I've tried to quit several times, just can't seem to do it. But there is only room for one stubborn old goat in my band, and I've got the position sewn up.

Give me wide-eyed green kids who aren't set in their ways that I can teach. It might be different if I wasn't traveling all the time; do you know how hard it is to get that "old man" smell out of a van?

A local band in their early 20's kept posting an ad for months, and I was slightly interested.
But the age restriction was keeping me from inquiring.
Then one day, they changed the ad to "no senior citizens (over 30)".
Needless to say, they never seemed to fill the spot.

Why is that needless to say?

I think that knowing your direction is the first step in succeeding as a band...and maybe the most important decision. They sound like ambitious kids to me.
