At my place this week: male vocals, female vocals, 3 guitarists, originals by 2 different people, a keyboard player, a Djembe dummer.
:)
Is that a band I smell cooking?
.
Life is good.

sounds good...good luck there.

tonight i'm getting together (first time) w a "reso guy"....dobro/weissenborn/lap steel/pedal steel and the banjo man from my bluegrass band.

i guess i'll need some time to load the car....ac gtr, mando, octave mando, and upright... but at least i can leave my dobro home!

this guy is a great player. he came to a Val & Mal duo gig a cpl yrs ago and sat in cold on Weissenborn on a few tunes and just killed! he can do the old timey and bluegrass thing but he's also into more modern jazzgrass like rob ickes. should be fun.

indeed....life IS good!

Had a gas leak IN the house yesterday! Luckily gas company was there to fix the meter - ice damage - and put their sniffer on the pipes. 3 hours of a plumber's time getting the inside pipes to non-leaking stage. Could have been a LOT worse!

No new prospects on an acoustic band, but ...

Currently in rehearsals with my friends for the annual Beatles-theme benefit show we do each year. We raise serveral thousand $$ for the church that hosts the coffeehouse and the local 'Music in Our Schools' program.

In negotiation stage on hosting a new open mic in Nashua.

19 original songs in production - some pretty much finalized, others still in tracking or mixing process. WIll have to narrow the list down to 12-14 songs for my next CD, planning on release later this year.

Very close to a perfect day. I was out running around in perfect 65 degree weather doing research on the river areas around Roswell GA while getting some exercise. (for chapter I'm writing called the Battle of the North River Bridges). Roswell has to be one of the most beautiful places I've ever lived.

Got home and wrote for while, then practiced for an hour to get ready to rehearse with a vocalist. I've asked my partner to take over guitar - I'm happier on bass and our female vocalist likes to have the bass behind her. Had a great rehearsal.

There is not much more to ask for out of a day.

I think that what you have to do is find ONE person who is in synch with the style of music you want to play.
Meet him, play for a couple of hours, and then talk about what you want to do with your music.
This first person must be in synch with you, he will be the most important person in the group - be sure he's the right guy, or keep on looking.
.
Play together at different open mikes, and mention that "eventually we'll be looking for a " . . . " (fill in the blank, singer, bass player, drummer, whatever."
.
And word WILL get around.
Be patient, just keep on practicing together and keep learning and keep performing new songs.
You have to meet people face-to-face.

It's finding that ONE person that's the (first) killer. I've founda few possiblities - song list/taste matched, but then something else would come up that made it not work out.

This past wekend, I went to an open mic on Saturday night - no money, but I get to sit with friends and shoot the sh*t all night and have a few cold beers. Host asked me to do 6 songs in the first set, then asked me back up again to close out hte night wiht 3 more songs.
Sunday, got together with a few others from my songwriting circle (remember Tammy who used to come here?) and we recorded a ukulele song (original) to be used as a video commercial for the annual Uke Picnic in Nashua. Then in the afternoon, had 2 hours of practice (on bass) for the upcoming Beatles benefit.
I shouldn't have played pinball with my wife for 2 hours Saturday afternoon - my fingers and arms are still sore today!

Again: be sure he's the right guy, or keep on looking. And it might only be 1 out of 12 people.
