Hi I hope this is appropriate.
I just joined and Im not a premium member so don't know if I can get replies.
But I thought I'd try!

Please reply on this thread if that's within the rules because I can't respond via PM

I'm a singing doing jazz lessons and musicals...and have to be spot on for a solo.

I'm trying to find the key of
Julie London's Cry me A River so I can order sheet music.
Particularly of that opening note where she sings 'Now'.

I've been told I need G (correction) minor(correction) but I'm not 100% sure that's the key she's singing in..
Can anyone advise please?

I've downloaded the piano sheet music of Julie's version but I don't think it's accurate and way too high.
My voice is ...just like Julie London's but I don't read or play music..doh!

Can any bright spark check Julie's version on YouTube and get back to me please.
Many thanks in advance.

I hope I haven't broken any rules posting this.
I've just joined so sorry for being so cheeky.
Many hundreds of millions of thanks to anyone who can help!

Jacky

You can post whatever you like. Just take a look at what buffoonery goes on here. No pm system, though. Say it out in the open, like the rest of us. I've never heard of that song, though.

If you are lucky, the very knowledgeable Planetguy will come in and give you a definitive answer.

did someone flash the bat signal???

i concur w the very knowledgeable VelbertonVineerian AKA Vinny....

but I'd tend to think it's in key of G rather than G flat.

yep....the version i checked out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXg6UB9Qk0o is indeed in the key of "G" not Gb.

and a great version of that wonderful tune it is! joe cocker has an interesting version w a very different take on that classic... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRDe0PIPqj0

good luck w the tune, jacky and welcome to BM. 8)

Hi you guys,
I thank you so much for your help and warm welcomes!
I very much appreciate it from 'real' musicians.
So kind of you.
I'm reading your comments now.
All very valuable.

-Oh I understand no PM..that's cool.

-LOL if you haven't heard it...it's a 'torch singer's' song,
lady on a bar-stool in a smokey nightclub kinda song.

-Love the Youtube vids...Joe Cocker..he was so eccentric and soulful.

The original C minor...thanks.
I seem to have bought what is 'described' as the original published key which is Eb major , very
different to the Julie London version lol . It's also miles slower. :o

Funnily I can sing it straight off acapella no problem.
But it's my first time buying sheet music and having a real pianist.
I also belt the note 'Now', a bit higher than Julie does.
I will work it out.

I made a silly error...I've been told I should sing in G minor not G flat.
(I corrected my original post just now in my original post)
But I will take your excellent feedback and do more research.

Thanks so much every one of you gentlemen. :D

PS Any members please feel free to give feedback on this subject ...I'm singing it next Wednesday

Hello VelbertonVineerian,
I wonder what key Julie London sings in as I have learnt from her record.
So I take all my cues from her version.
Once I know I can buy the right key sheet music.lol :)

This is the youtube link if it is ok to post it? or feel free to google it.

(I was told I was probably a G minor but had no time to discuss it in class.)
Oh I absolutely agree...its difficult to judge without hearing me lol.
Thanks so much for asking.

I'm not a musician so thanks for your patience.
