Someone asked me what happened to "Spring Song."
(I don't recall which thread it was, hence this new post . . .)
Anyway,
- I'd swapped it out for another song.
But I just put it back.
Sorry about that . . .
This newer version is updated a bit.
> The original guitar (the 'actual' song) was restored to it's original volume.
> the backround vocals are softer.
> and some of the other 'backup' guitars were either deleted or softened . . .
.
So - most of the changes were merely volume changes on the several tracks . . . and it made a difference.
It's still waiting for me to add bass (a pretty simple bass, really), but I've been working on 3 - 4 other songs . . .
Also, I'm waiting on the vocals, yet - got a lady who was writing them for me, but I had already told her there was no hurry . . .
.
So - here's where the song is, for now . . . 1 little step farther along . . .

Spring song is warm and listenable. The background vox are nicely mixed. The changes are tasty. The only thing I can suggest is record with a click track of some kind that you can later edit out. It's just a little loose in places. I thing the song stands on it's own without lead vox. Nice job.

Thank You.

I'd never really intended on presenting this song here, or anywhere . . .
This recording was just started as a quick test-version of the song.
.
I have a lady friend/singer interested in singing it. She likes the song, and she asked me what the melody was. I know she is good (although she doesn't seem to think so,) and so I told her to just 'pick out a melody' in her vocal range, whatever is comfortable to sing.
She has a great voice.
But she kept saying, "I don't want to screw up your song!"
.
Argh, melodies are so easy!
.
. . . . I said just pick one . . . She says, "But I don't want to ruin your song."
So, ok, ok . . . I recorded all the guitars and vocals . . . and - see - lots of melodies to choose from . . . "I don't really care what you sing," I told her.
(If it's no good, we'll just do another, no big deal).
I told her to pick a melody, and I'd put her name on the song, too, I don't care . . .
And - I don't care.
Christ, I have 900 other songs I'm working on, I don't care . . .
Well, more like 25 - 30 other songs, at the moment . . .
But . . .
I'd rather work with a vocalist who doesn't need to be told everything . . . I don't have time to teach other people how to do what they should already know how to do . . . I have my own stuff to learn . . .
.
I've been wasting too much time with the wrong people, lately . . . Bass players, singers, talkers . . .
Everyone says what they want to do. Why don't they just do it, and stop talking about it?
Too much talking is keeping me from recording . . .
Anyway . . .
I recorded all the melodies, and said "Here, take your pick - just use your own vocal range."
She's my friend, but I don't even care if she comes back to sing the song, to tell you the truth.
Hell, I sang 8 tracks and recorded 8 guitar tracks in the time it takes her to learn one melody? Hell, I'm not even a singer . . . I should teach her?
I just don't have the time to teach.
I don't even care anymore . . .
Anyway . . .
I had never really intended to leave the background vocals and guitars in the song, but, what the heck, it was different, and I just don't care any more . . .
.
The only reason I ever posted it in the 1st place was because there was a post on multiple guitars, and I had this song in progress.
I had hurriedly cleaned it up a bit, then posted it.
I have another song which I did with similar backgound vocals, but I won't be posting it until I find the right female vocalist.
If ever . . .
.
But, until someone shows up who doesn't need to be taught, I prefer working alone.

I'm glad you guys like the song. Thanks for saying so . . .

^ You're cool buddy. Good luck with the artistic satisfaction side of this art form. That's all I ever shoot for. Make it to where I like it, share it, see what happens, rinse repeat.

Thanks, people.
I'm going to spend less time talking to other musicians and singers, and more time recording. I can find musicians and singers ok, just not the kind I need . . .
.
Anyway . . .
I have another song which is very similar in style to this "Spring Song," with the background vocals and all. It's called "Summer Song," and it was written about 1 year before "Spring Song."
(And, yes, I wrote songs for Fall and Winter. They're a little more melancholy, and complex.)
.
"Summer Song" has 1 guitar, 1 bass, and several background vocals. it has harmonies similar to "Spring Song." I've written lyrics for it, but I have not trained my voice to the point where my voice would help the song.
While I've had 3-4 female vocalists sing it, none had practiced with it enough to the point where I wanted to record it with them.

yes i like this alot...its very easy on the ear...and it sounds abit like a folk version of nirvana "jesus dont want me for a sunbeam" in a strange way...it can only sound better when you find the right vocalist to finish it off...but its a nice piece....good job.

Yeah, sometimes you need to just hear something 'easy on the ear.'
.
If you're interested, the 1st few chords are:
(2 forms of) A6sus4, (2 fingers, 5 strings, 7th fret)
.
and then it goes to
.
A7#9sus2, (2 fingers, 5 strings, 5th fret)
.
and then to a plain old open D.
.
MMm, an easier way to play it is D to C, repeatedly, I guess . . .
.
Possibly, what helps make theis song is how you pick it . . .
