Sometimes songwriters have a great ending.
That's important, because that's the part of the song that will still be in the heads of the listeners, when it's over.
.
It's funny, sometimes you can spend an hour or more on a song, and then look for a quick ending.
I've done that where I've spent about 5 minutes on the ending - or the intro - and it morphs into the best part of the song.

I'm both working on a new song and not working on a new song simultaneously! I've got 3 in the hopper so to speak, but i'll be darned if I can find anytime to finish the suckers. Work and family life and an accoustic side-project have me slammed / ug. I think I need an energy boost, and some inspiration to get me back in the studio, but it's hard to get into the mood when I'm tired :/ I picked a bad year to quit meth

There's no substitute for desire.
I guess that sometimes it's a matter of balancing what we need to do with what we want to do.
.
I always have songs buzzing through my head, it's never quiet inside!
And the songs in my head tend to change, until - maybe 2 hours later (or 2 days later) it's a new groove and a new song.
Then I have no choice but to do a quick recording, if I want to hear them again!

fishermanbob wrote:Constantly work on originals. Covers for me aren't work. I listen to them a few times, write the progressions down and got it. The originals take much longer. I perform both. IMO on the covers, as long as you do a representative rendition, it's good enough. The originals HAVE to be better. Nobody knows them. They HAVE to kick ass.

Bang!
Spot on, Bob.
