Does any one play any good old time folk and country music any more? I and my three daughters did a home recording of this style of music and it sure feels great to hear it again! Check out our site at: http://www.edpalmer.com Thank you. (Vietnam Vet)

Ed,

I went to your site but all I could do is see you at your piano and the nice pic of where you live? Other than that, I was blocked because my browser is too old. It does look like a great place to live.
I began playing Ventures and Duane Eddy stuff, but I was in the service with a bunch of ridge runners who played country, and when I got out of the service I payed all the old country stuff for years.

So Yes, to answer your question, I play it all the time. I don't care for the new country stuff. It is simply bad Rockabilly without the heart with a layer of tacky lyrics spread on top. :)

I like most folk music, and have written a couple dozen folksy - songs.
I don't care to play country at all, though, there's not enough variety in the songs.
I can LISTEN to country, just will never want to play it.

I play 3 weekends a month w The 121's, a 4 pc honky tonk truckstop band at Midway Truck Plaza. we do only a handful of newer country tunes that aren't too horrible (none of the brain dead nascar pop that just sounds like bad '80's pop w twangy vcls), but mainly we stick to the classics like Hank Sr., J Cash, Buck, Merle, George Jones, etc.

the bluegrass band Mere Mortals i play w does some older folk stuff Union Maid, Make Me A Pallet, etc.

and i've recently started playing w Katie Jo and The Rattlers.....older country, honky tonk, and western swing.

there's still people that appreciate and respect the older stuff that has the staying power because that music has substance. how much of top 40 "current country" is gonna be around and get played even ten yrs from now???? not much i'd wager.

".older country, honky tonk, and western swing." <<<<<<< All the stuff that I love to hear and play. :) :) But I do have a passion for genuine older Rock A Billy.

I remember playing George's Diner with a country singer named Billy Carrol Whiteman. He warned me to not let my eyes rest too long on anybody - "...they are quick to take offense." "Don't talk to anybody and don't drink too much."

He knew his fans.

And I'm surprised I haven't had my ass kicked more than I have.
