What is the purpose in dredging up really old threads or are these the result of computerized spam robots?

Old posts get revived by search-bots like P SPam...& then added to by spambots like Shatya.

The searchbot seeks titles for key-words that exist in spambots database, they say innocuous things to revive the thread. The searchbot serves another function, too - try emailing something to this address - figment@nettally.com - & you'll find your ebox so chock-fulla spam, viruses, mal-ware, spy-ware & ad-ware that you may as well give up & open a new email addy.

The spambot is just annoying on any thread, posting drivel that has been stolen from other forums, most likely, that somehow refers to the key-words that the searchbot found, as they work together.

We're being inundated with bots at the moment, but they usually come in waves.

Note the initiator-bots we've had, as well...the ones opening new threads that we attack.

I suspect the IP address for PSPam, Sathya, Soni04, & all those other flower/fruit basket//candygram/anything with an addy in the nic 'new members' is the same spammy asshole.

(necro-posting) in certain cases could be considered a form of trolling.
Necro usually refers to finding a really old thread and posting a new message. This brings the thread to the top of the list. Often this is done to try to confuse people. In some cases there is some merrit to it but mostly it's just people looking for some attention.

Sometimes it's new members looking over the forum for things that are of a particular interest to themselves.

Hello. I haven't been here in a number of years but was astounded to find that some of you think I am a spammer, a bot, or that my email address will cause you to get spam. I want to let you know that NONE OF THAT IS TRUE!! My screen name has been PeachStatePam for about 14 years and at times I shorten it to PSPam. Some of you seem to be reading it as P "spam" instead of PS Pam. Also my email address of figment@nettally.com has been my email address since I moved back to Florida in 1998. I have kept it all these years because I am a hepatitis C advocate and everyone in that community has known me by that email address since 1998 and I want to make sure they can always reach me. Figment was the name of my CAT. Mr. Figment. It has to do with the character from Imagination Land at Disney World. It doesn't mean that I am a bot and a figment of your imagination. It WAS a figment of my imagination that I was adopting another cat when I wasn't looking for one and thus his name. So thank you for letting me clear that up. Negativity bothers me - obviously! LOL Meanwhile, if any of you have any hepatitis C questions or need any support you can email me at figment@nettally.com and I will be happy to answer all questions for you. Also I am part of a nonprofit called H.E.A.L.S of the South - Hepatitis Education, Awareness and Liver Support - (healsofthesouth on FB) and there is a lot of hep C info there. Thanks for taking the time to read this and allow me to clear up this misconception. A great many musicians are dealing with hepatitis C. If you were born between 1945-1965, the CDC recommends a one time test as there are seldom any symptoms, so if you are an "older musician", PLEASE ask your doctor to test you. I am here for anyone that needs help and since last year there is now a CURE for hepatitis C! YEA! Don't take your status for granted. ASK your doctor for a one time hepatitis C test added to your yearly blood work. Peace! Pam

So here you are again dredging up another old (4 years old) thread with no seeming purpose. Your profile would indicate that you have no musical ability or desires, why are you here except to spam us about Hep C?

Me too R-Man.

Hell - I'm a historian - data matters no matter how old it is.

I read a lot of old threads when i joined up and benefited immensely.

I'm working now with technology and ideas I was unaware ten years ago.

Well that makes sense, this thread, on the other hand, is pretty much useless!

I'm surprised the spammers think there are enough readers here nowadays to make it worth their while taking time to post

The purpose GuitarMikeB was to "clear my name" as I didn't appreciate being posted about as a spammer. I played in bands for many years "back in the day" and my ex was a musician for many years. I was able to reconnect with an old band mate via this site so I will continue to be a member and hopefully find old friends!! Yes I posted about my hep C activities because so many people are now being diagnosed with it and many have no one to turn to for support and information. I am always here for that. I hope that you or none of your friends have it, but you just don't know unless you get tested for it. You certainly don't have to read my messages. That is your choice. Meanwhile, I doubt with all your negativity that anyone wants to play with you. Good luck though!

Also, hep C and music seem to go together!! Gregg Allman had a liver transplant from his hep C as did David Crosby and Phil Lesh. Steven Tyler treated and cleared. Natalie Cole treated and cleared but had a kidney transplant in the process. Naomi Judd treated and cleared. Freddy Fender and Lou Reed died from hepatitis C as did MANY other musicians. Too many to name! There are a TON of musicians with hep C, so as an HCV advocate, I will continue to spread the word to GET TESTED FOR HEPATITIS C any where and every where that I can!! If you don't want to take it seriously, perhaps tell a friend or 12 and save somebodys life. 1 in 12 people in the world have hepatitis. About 5 million in the U.S. with hepatitis C and less than a million that have been diagnosed. Someone may read this post and ask their doctor to test them and now that there is a cure - it just might save somebody's life. Seems important enough to post to me!! Here is a site I help with on wikipedia that you might find interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pe ... epatitis_C Have a music filled evening!!
