I was not really a fan but he was part of the sixties, early seventies experience which put him in there with a lot of folks whose opinion means more than mine. He was certainly fun to watch.

The question I keep asking myself - how did we all know about every group? Maybe not a lot but who didn't hear of Joe Cocker? There was no Youtube, no social media. We all knew though.

The queue outside the rock and roll mortuary is getting longer and longer... I'd kinda hoped that if we got past 27 we had that death thing beat. Guess not...

I've never cared for Joe's caterwauling, or that of Janis Joplin, either. Their (few) songs come on the radio, people just light up. Oh boy! I just love him/ her. I don't get it. Put up something from YouTube that would make me like this stuff. Anyway, RIP, Joe.

Joe had a distinctive voice and a style that set him apart. Like him or not, you knew it was him singing. Back in the day, you didn't have to think someone was the greatest...it was an accomplishment if you were aware of them at all. We weren't "balkanized" into genres that separted rockers. No, it was rock vs disco vs bubblegum pop back then.

I liked his version of the "the Letter" but really, he was a cover band most of his life until "You Are So Beautiful" which was a joke if you're into Led Zep like I was.

Still, he has a place in rock n roll history.

Now hopefully Joe is "Up Where We Belong" and that one instead was his first original song (though not written by him) recorded that became a hit

Joe was certainly an acquired taste and not everyone gets him. I ate his music up and his live tracks just cut me in half. Besides his unique vocal style he toured with one of the hottest bands in the biz.

Rest in peace you beautiful crazy maniac.

Joe was all over the radio in the 70's, "Little Help From My Friends", "Woman To Woman", "High Time We Left", "Hitchcock Railway" and the whole "Mad Dogs" album were huge. But I suppose he's an acquired taste for some, especially if you didn't grow up with him.

You just reminded me of songs I had forgotten....oh yea, I loved those songs! I called him spazmo-Joe for the erratic stage movements.
