Hello everyone. My name is Stu and I'm new to the forums as well to Bandmix. Just started playing again after a too long absence. Been playing for over 20 years and have had my share of bands, bad gigs, cheap promoters, labels, lousy session work and disappointment. Now after becoming a family man, I'm ready to get back in the saddle and get back to why I started music to begin with. Creating music and expressing myself. I tried craigslist for while and most of the people who responded to my ad were. How do I say, in need of psychological help. I hope I'll have better luck with bandmix, since it's a little more social friendly.

Welcome Stu

Many of us on the forum have gotten good results from Bandmix but it takes a lot of filtering to nail down the 'just right' situation. The forum is usually not helpful in that regard because we are from all over the country.

The Search feature works pretty well. You can nail it down geographically. I continue to get a weekly update of players in my selected zips just as an FYI.

Like you I had a hiatus.

About seven years ago I came back to it. Relearning some theory was easy with all the internet tools; and I wrote some new songs. Two years later I hit bandmix and the key thing I've taken away from that was getting my arms around the current music culture.

Net result anyhow - when I was ready to start playing with people again I found them (or they found me) here.

cheers
Talbot

Hey, while I may be accustomed to forums I'm certainly new to this one.

Just a college kid from Minnesota (currently posting from Italy, yay for studying abroad!). I love music but I'm no professional, though I love to sing and entertain, and if I practiced my violin more often I'd love to play it with some sweet rock and roll accompaniment ('cause let's face it, the violin is the dark horse instrument of rock and roll). I'll be graduating school with an Associate of Arts this coming April and after that I have no idea what I'm doing with my life. This is all very experimental now but I would love to be able to seriously consider a career in music, it's just not something that has really been available to me.

I'm a huge fan of hard rock and alt. but my taste isn't limited to that genre (how can it be when Owl City takes up such a significant portion of my iTunes library?). Recently discovered Black Veil Brides and I've been listening to them non-stop. I am a person without my headphones too, I love being outdoors, horseback riding (had my own horse before college), comic books (mostly Spider-Man and Deadpool), video games (Assassin's Creed, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts…), reading (though sadly I don't have a lot of time for it anymore), and meeting new people (I may be an introvert but I'm an outgoing introvert, sometimes).

I don't want to ramble on too long, I hope to get to know some of you more as I start hanging around here. Ciao!

Hey whats up all? Just ran across the forum. Looks like growing community to shot the sh*t about gigs and just BS about our passions. I look forward to looking over the rest of the site, but as I was just checking out some a place to get some strings I ran across a Strings and Pick club. Looks pretty cool, cause its a monthly thing so I can get my strings and picks sent out each month. Hate going to the freaking store. Anyway anyone heard of it before?

Hi there!!
The name's Dora, but I go by Plague. (Don't asked why because I don't really know. Haha!)
Anyway, I don't do much besides write and sing. I've been in a few bands before and I'm looking to join or form another!
I'm 19, a student and Palo Alto College, an employee at Target, and live in the lovely San Antonio, Texas:)

Is clumsy spam just the chunkier variety, or is it generic? How does that work?
