We are a group of musicians working on a mobile app which will aim to make "calendar" specific for musicians. The idea is that when creating an event you get notified instantly if the other party is available, you can also see your friends or groups calendar vs your to see when you're all available

What do you guys think about this? If this problem relevant for you? Any comments?

Thanks much for your feedback! As this would help us figure out the next step

Some questions - how will you narrow it down by geographic region?

How will you get the information Fletch mentioned such schedules for lighting companies and other support services.

Do you intend to keep this local to a city or nationwide?

I think this is a good idea and wish you the best of luck.

Hi folks. Thanks for your input!

So how we deal with it is like this; User creates a profile, Then you can connect with other users on same network. once you're "confirmed" as friend (say with another musician or sound engineer or even club etc..) you can either create an event and see who's available by inviting them to event and it instantly pops up whether they're available or not, OR you can actually go to their profile and check their calendar VS yours (and same goes to a whole group) to see When everyone's available

Hope this helps.

That's going to lead to some hurt feelings, one way or another. It's just human nature. Moral of the story: you had better be the best musician you can be, as well as a likeable person. Or else, you'll be asking why you weren't invited, why no one accepts your invitations. You know the answer. Don't ask the question. Just like the rest of life.

It also relies on each 'member' actually updating their personal calendar regularly. In my band we tried using Google calendar (no notifications, but it tracks everyone listed as a 'member' on your personal calendar). Half the guys would use it - which made it useless.
At work it's the same issue using the Outlook calendar - if people don't update their personal schedule on it .... useless.

Not calling out anyone, specifically. I can't judge. I don't practice.

That will work in small communities where everyone knows each other and agrees to join. I could see churches doing this, especially those with several campi.

I could see large businesses needing this...basically it's a yahoo group with a calendar and instant messaging right?

If enough communities started using it, that would generate more communities like myspace or Facebook. ...but those were funded ground up with big $$$

Still.....tech is the future so I'd say dream big and go for it. You know the vision better than anyone else so why ask?
