The only 'instrumentalist' gigs I know about would be as background music in high-end restaurants - solo piano or finger-playing guitar, or jazz trios.

My guess is they are asking how many people that aren't singers are finding work through this site?
It is what it is until it isn't
my group PLANET JAZZ plays 2 to 5 paying gigs a month in the hotbed of instrumental jazz (NOT!) mid-missouri area. we have a few vocal tunes but i'd say 80-90% of our stuff is instrumental.
playing instrumental music isn't an easy sell but if ya love doing it...it can be done as long as you have realistic expectations about it's limited marketability.
bon chance!

I've done instrumental gigs, or gigs with very little singing.
The guys are right, restaurants are a great place for this, as background music.

Wineries are worth looking into as well. I used to play a lot winery solo instrumental gtr gigs. But the solo gig is my LEAST favorite gig because it doesn't take too long til i become bored senseless by my playing!
I played a solo winery gig a cpl of weeks ago.....first one in close to a year i'd guess. Funny, I really enjoyed myself playing for a small but attentive and appreciative crowd. Nice paying gig for sitting on my behind, sipping wine, and playing my goofy originals, a few jazz standards, and some classical on nylon string.

Maybe you're right! In that case, finding a band or bandmates is never easy, whether you can sing or not!

One of my friends plays drums in an all instrumental Surf band and they play everywhere. They are very good and this is SoCal though. The birthplace of Surf Guitar.
