as long as you are not setting yourself up for litigation and are not breaking laws, and are in some measure reasonably polite to others, then this thing known as BandMix chat forum should work.. it would also be nice if we (starting now) could adhere to BandMix policy and chat about music or music related subject matter.. I am as guilty as anybody breaking that policy.. but then, some might already be fantasizing about their musical lifestyle at least partially to begin with, that's ok in my book too.. it seems by having to post only music related subject matter, then we are bound to only 3 or 4 scenarios ... 1. posting basically free advertising stating where the band is playing in the future, (which is ok in my book though)
2. sharing photos of band members stylin' and profilin" which also could be considered self-promotion ..(and indirectly presumed to be free advertising not paid to BandMix)
3. road stories which to my knowledge would only include yod, since to my knowledge is the only person touring the U.S. and world.. I would like to know how the 350 mile trip from Tulsa to St.Louis was done in 3 hours?
4. You-Tube videos, also a ad for the musical group..
I suggest BandMix put one of those PayPal donate buttons here, for people who are using the tool of self-promotion actually tip BandMix for that service.. f :P

and don't think for a minute, that I am singling out anybody in particular.. I can think of 8 or 10 different posters that have promoted themselves and improved their financial condition using the free service chat room..

Music related, we can also discuss:
Equipment
Recording questions/answers/factoids
Theory
I'm sure there's more ...

I agree Mike .. those 3 subjects would qualify, but I'm not sure about posting links to the next gig, or posting photos of the band for potential music venue owners to see perhaps, and hire them based on their looks and appearance/stage presence rather than musical ability.. if we could charge only the people here advertising for free then maybe all could get "premium services" for free..

dayne, i'm not sure how many are using this site for self promo.

myself... i might mention a gig (usually AFTER it was played)...but as spread out as us forum regulars are, i don't expect anyone to show.

hell, you're the closest to me and you're what.....three hrs away????

same goes for others like gtrmike, yod, and others who might mention an upcoming gig.....i don't think it's quite "self promotion" if you don't expect anyone reading about it to show or see anything from it.

likewise w posting photos or youtubes. i know i've never seen dollar one or garnered any gigs from anything i've posted here.

when hawking one of my bands.....i'd never send a fish on the hook here!

youtube....yes, BM? hell no!

You know there are no limits to how many threads can be posted. Post away if you want to talk music.

But "General Chat" isn't what it sounds like.

All users can post to this forum on general music topics.

Maybe the Admin could add some sub categories... like a menu... you've got your
Chicken options (politics because we know we are going to change someones mind about their belief's right?)...
Beef options (porn for those art lovers)...
Desserts (religion "my gods better than yours")
Beer/Wine (Uhhhh... we'll leave that one alone etc...

Then you at least filter things down a bit more.

Forums have their own ebb and flow based on the participants. If posters want to back and forth about each others political parties let em beat each other into oblivion... other than some ego damage nobody gets hurt.

Now if you're talking trolls... kick their MF'ing arse out!

As have I for many years but... I've gone 2 weeks now w/o any.
Got to work on the dairy...
Gonna miss Pizza with cheese and having real cream in my coffee but there are measurable health benefits to a meatless diet!
It's all part of my Liberal Commie existence you know!

i tell ya....it's all a plot by these damn progressive liberals.

first they said we shouldn't bbq indoors, then nex....................

my wife can't eat red meat. there's an enzyme in it that give her painful and long lasting attacks. so, i rarely (haha) eat it in front of her. hard to enjoy a nice steak with your honey sitting across the table salivating and lusting after it!

We've made good contact and some good paying gigs have come from those contacts in the past.

As for now . . . It's a crying shame where we've gone with this forum.
With the exception of a very few musicians . . . it's a waste of time.
Has not always been so.
Hopefully it will come full circle.

I nearly gave up eating meat. No moral problem, nor do I consider it a health benefit - rather the reverse.

It was just that meat didn't taste good anymore.

Then i drew down a grain fed porterhouse and that was how I remembered meat tasting.

Like Mexican cokes - I drink little soda but when I do its Mex. (real sugar instead of poison)

shitake mushrooms make a good meat like substitute.. just remember to get all your essential amino acids if you decide to go vegetarian.. if you eat rice you need some beeans to get the real deal.. and in no way was I tryin g to make anybody uncomfortable with their posting behavior.. I just had this thought about a donate button in case you do not want to be tied down with a monthly subscription..

Mark, I have been assigned to the Columbia VA Hospital.. if it ever comes to me being on my death bed at the hospital, I want you to come visit me.. I might just give you what few amps and guitars I have ..I know they would be going to a good home..
