Also, Strapping Young Lad?! Devin Townsend? He's been Canadian metal's spokesman for nearly a decade!
Check them out, theyre great.

What exactly is tech-death metal?? After Metallica came out of the closet I pretty much stopped listening to heavy music. haha

cheers

You should most definitely listen to Voivod, if you haven't already. The good stuff in metal is rarely the "popular" stuff. Not trying to sound hip, but the most interesting metal can be quite alienating. A lot of great metal comes from Canada dude, you just gotta scrape the rust of the steel. Gorguts, Cryptopsy, Voivod, Razor, just to name a few. I used to listen to a lot more of the quirky experimental stuff like Unexpect and Strapping Young Lad but I like my experimental music serious in nature for the most part at this point.

I was lead vocals and main writer with Another Lie - John Blackrose. That band was amazing, and heavy metal throughout. Q107 wasn't gonna help, we were too heavy, and that's the problem, or was the problem when metal was relevant at all here.
We were sort of an updated Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow - heavy, lyrically interesting, imaginative. We wrote epic monstrous songs, and no label in Canada understood. All they wanted was Marshal...and they puked them out thank Gawd!
Johnny Blackrose - "We were thrown into black from light, unholy spirits, eternal night. We fell upon our knees and prayed for sunshine, our flesh was burning raw from the snow and ice. It was black magic that condemned us all, and so the darkness we must fight. Mortal men against the legions of the night, stand up my brothers, stand up and fight!"

Woooo!

Yesterday I was a guest DJ on Metal Express Radio out of Oslo. The station gave us 1 hour and 9 minutes at 9 am then again at 3 pm. They played the 6 song self-titled EP in its entirety at the end of my gig. To hear the EP:

I love Unexpect and Devin Townsend Project - both of which have been mentioned already amongst some other really great metal acts. Some other Canadian metal bands worth checking out (that I don't think have been mentioned yet) are Woods of Ypres, f**k the Facts, Into Eternity, Mares of Thrace, Zimmer's Hole, Birthday Massacre, The Agonist. Some are still active, some not. Skinny Puppy is Canadian too, just more on the industrial side of metal.

Canada is pretty much a socialist country with socialized health care, welfare, and great social programs. The % of our population that is in the mood to make great metal is pretty small.
But yeah, Killer Dwarfs are great.
Anvil is what it is.
