Not Rock or really Blues certainly not Jazz...
Has little elements of each to me like the goofy stuff David Lee Roth did during some of his solo days.
Just a short 2 minute thang and a tip of the hat to Robert Johnson. :P

Better Things To Do
Now if you aint got a ticket better get in line
The train leaves the station about a quarter past nine and

She won't wait for you she's got better things to do

Well you can call it a warning when you hear the whistle blowing
And what could be worse than not knowing now
My bag is packed feeling kind of restless
going to ride her all the way to Memphis

When the wheels are turning going round and round
and the steam bell ringing will wake up the whole town
She got to keep moving got a schedule to keep
while I'm day-dreaming falling back to sleep

Opened my eyes to see her wave good-bye
I missed my baby now she's the red light in my mind

She won't wait for you she's got better things to do
She won't wait for you she's got better things to do
She won't wait for you she's got better things to do

And what the hell is going on with this site you have to re-write and then copy and paste just to post anymore.... meh.
But then again I'm a non-subscriber (no room to bitch)

Similar problem my friend.

I use a template created in MS Word for all my songwriting - has space for video description, music, lyrics, header etc. Does not work on Bandmix so it's a pain in the neck to post songs.

I guess I'm going to have to sober up one of these nights and just record everything. I'm all set up but not very confident. Been drinking my blues away and it screws up my recordings.

Gee - I wonder what the solution is to that?

Mike I'm guessing when you were a youngster you had a cassette player/recorder. Remember recording your ideas onto tape and then playing them back or recording your band in the basement and the drums would drowned out most everything else but you did it anyways.
Well that was long ago and now the names have changed to DAW and Zoom recorder etc... Get off your arse and just do it man. If you need help or have questions just start a thread here or go to one of the many help sites for home recording.

Don't know why but these boys remind me of you! Maybe because they're from Marietta, Georgia. 8)

Jahva - will listen to your new tune tonight.

Mike T - put the bottle down, and get recording! Lots of ways to do it, but just like playing a particular lead guitar or bass part, you've got to practice and keep doing it to get better.

Yeah, this site is still messed up, I copy my messages before clicking 'submit', so I can try again if it fails.

another cool tune there, jahva! and as usual....I really dig your lyrical and straight ahead guitar playing.

Talbot... (as you know doubt know) sometimes the hardest part in overcoming the inertia we all go thru at one point or another is just getting started. do that, and then.....off we go.

maybe you just need to spend some more time listening to the music that gets your ankles hard and inspires you. that always works pretty good for me. bon chance.

Sounds like music to me... the kind of music I can play, and that I like to play and listen to. We need more of this kind of stuff and less metal.

What kind of music? Well... I don't really know either. Kinda folk, kinda soft rock, kinda like Creedence only different. But I like it!

Thanks PG... I know it's an old cliche progression but you got to try it at least once... right.

Elraque Thanks man it was a fun couple of minutes/hours to play and put together.
I know where you're coming from... we are products of our age. And I'll be damned if some youngster is going to tell me what's good! :P
You should post some of your music if you have anything recorded it keeps the music conversations going... more music less politics...

Jahva

That is a pretty good song actuually. You certainly crank them out.

Tell me, what do you use for drums? That is actually holding me back more than strong drink.

Mike
I use a Yamaha ($80.00) keyboard that has several drum kits as voice options.
It has strings, horns, percussion's, pianos really hundreds of sounds available on it. They're not going to fool anyone but they give me more sounds play around with.

The keyboard has a 1/4 output (for Headphones) so I run a line out of the keyboard into my Audio Interface box. And voila whatever instrument (including drums) is played on the keyboard is now being sent to the recording software.
So I play the keys to create my drum tracks.
I do have a real snare I use with brushes from time to time when it fits the song. Oh and a tambourine and some shakers... :)
But yeah that's it. It worked for me early on so I never ventured into the drum software options. I've gotten better at setting up beats so I just deal with the shortcomings of it all rather than learn more software. I don't think drums very well so I keep it simple.

MikeB knows a lot about drum software if you're interested in that I'm sure he could recommend something for you...

This is my hang-out.

Thanks for checking out the tune... yeah I try to work on something musically every day.

Sounds like a missing Grateful Dead tune! Nice!

During the word 'ringing' (steam bell ringing) there's some staticy noise, might have happened on the upload - listened to it 3 times and its in the same place, so not on my end.

Yeah it's there Mike.... Artifacts. One of these days Im going to get a dedicated CPU just for recording.
Should be able to clean it up this evening.
I'm not all that familiar with the GD... And I can't imagine they would have a song only 2 minutes long.
:P
Thanks for checking it out.

No, the Dead would have a song that they jam on for another 10 minutes! But the sound is very similar to their non-jamming tight-studio stuff.

Jahva - you get great 'fake drums' using your keyboards. I never had much success doing so, although my first cd uses that method or the built in drum rhythms in my old Boss recorder.

Now I use EZ Drummer MIDI software, and I'm about ot upgrade to EZD2 which adds a whole bunch of features to it. It takes ome time to learn how to use drum software to access the best you can get out of it. SOme people use electronic drum kits to drive the software, which is the easiest way - if you can play drums, of course.

I think I got lucky with it mike. I had the keyboard before I started doing any home recording. For the styles I play it's worked well enough for me. The decay is not very good. Worse sound is probably the cymbals... ack!
Also it defaults with reverb so you have to remember to shut it off before using it.
I do single track everything except for the toms so I can have some separation on em.
It just took some time to understand getting everything aligned... I get it now.

Yeah, I always single-tracked too, figuring when to leave your finger on the key (or use the sustain pedal) was always tricky, especially the cymbals.
My tom roll-offs always sucked - I could probalby play them better on real drums than my fingers did on keys and I haven't sat down at a drum set for 30 years!

Javha

I listened to the link you suggested - Black Crowes. Yep - I'd be comfortable with them.

My own stuff (that I'm working to record now) is a bit more raucous.

It's funny though - with your music, with the Crowes, It never occurred to me to play guitar - bass for me thanks.

Yet my own stuff and various other styles, you can't pry my guitar out of my hands.
