Relax, kids..

I just say what I want to and faq anyone that doesn't like it.

I don't even read the whole thread(s) anymore, if I see something I want to comment on, I do.

Don't let people upset you by what they say, it's fruitless.

So much good stuff on here, you have to basically plan on ignoring some comments made.

It's really not a thang, you know?

Everyone is bitching because we got 2 admins now.

I don't pay any attention to that, either..
People always need something to cry about..(myself included) lol

everyone???? nah...not exactly.

that's fine, there's not nearly enough hrs in the day and we all choose how we spend our time....but were you better informed on this topic.....you'd realize that there's only been one dissenting voice about mike and george taking the reins to keep spam off BM.

and there's only one voice carping about them abusing their "power" to censor views they find objectionable.

in fact many have expressed their approval of this plan (including myself).

Actually, I disapprove also - it's just that I haven't devolved into paranoia (yet), so I haven't given mike too much of a hard time.
And George is my bandmix father (not that he's old enough to be my father) - so I will never say a word against him, no matter what he says or does.

Spam can be handled by the anonymous, or by computer program.
In my opinion, no one in the asylum should be promoted to a position of (perceived) authority - it's just not a good, psychologically and sociologically speaking.

This is supposed to be my recording thread, so...

In this day in age, does it really matter if we use amp sims or real amps with 16 microphones pointed all over the place?
Can anyone even tell the difference?

....you no count interlopers be gone and bloody well sod off!

i'd say it depends on the situation ...and the rest of the situation.

i think it's two part:

there's the listening part of the equation where only those listeners w real big ears and/or some attention span and ear for detail might pick up on the difference.

...and then there's the bit of how playing with a real amp feels.

i hear what you're saying. i guess for me...the way i look at it is that it's so far from anything i would ever view (or your better word:"perceive") as a "promotion"...but i can see how someone else less proficient than i at wallpapering a music room might come to that conclusion.

that said...i'm a more than a little jealous that you're lucky enough to have a BandMix dad....when the only kin i have here is my illegitimate n'er do-well step son vinny.

I own a Vox ad30vt has 10 amp mods built in and 11 effects... it's not much of an amp but I just recently started to experiment running a jack from the amp line out to my interface. I should have been doing it all along.
For what I do it's much easier (and quieter) to plug in to the interface as oppose to miking the amp.
There are tons of amp mods available for little to nothing online. You can get pretty creative with the sounds for a lot less money than buying a few amps and a bunch of pedals for recording purposes.
Good amps and mics are expensive... mods are cheap to free. I've even cranked up my monitors while recording guitar parts (no headphones) using a plexi mod. to get feedback through the speakers. Probably not good for the speakers but it worked...

The real thing is to get the sound you want. However you do it.

On my song '50 Years Ago', one of the guys on the homerecording.com forums asked if I used a Vox amp on the rhythm guitar. Umm, kinda... My Line 6 Spider IV 75 line out on with a Vox-type setting ....

I've been over this before in my 3 gazzillion ridiculous posts. RG is a great drummer and is good at recording. The most difficult thing to control and separate is drums. Multiple mikes, many different volumes and timbres.

And yet behind every great recording is a tremendous live drum recording that works. Guitar and vocals are easy if you some good mics.

Sorry I'm real old school. Go back and listen to all your personal favorite recordings. Focus on the drums... Then focus on the bass... Then get to the cream that everyone supposedly pays attention too... Vocals, guitar, etc...

If you look at differently you may start to understand what I'm talkin bout.

ASK RG. (freakin awesome drummer)!!!!!

Glen

I worked six months with a drummer several years ago. I really wanted it to work. When you have the music and drums... It didn't work.

He was preoccupied with recording - I needed a drummer not an engineer!

At his best he was ok. But getting product out the door? I don't know. Maybe it was my fault since I was older and more experienced.

I will admit - I'd rather work with a drummer to get the music down - then reveal it to band.
