Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug.

I've been ordering my guitar strings from Sweetwater lately, quick shipping and no complaints so far. I get my strings in 2 days usually...good prices and good selection online...they sent me a catalog too and seem to have some pretty cool stuff.

I sent that piece of junk back this morning as I was leaving for rehearsal. Rehearsal went real well, we have a female singer that is 27. Today was her second audition and we are going to give her the position. Oh and the new Strat should be here this week! I ordered that American Standard HSS! I am even more stoked than I was! 8)

Oh and that buzz I was getting from the new pedal board didn't happen with the V3M head. I have been using the X100B reissue it has the tone I love, this V3M doesn't sound bad either.

LOL GZ, I know what you guys are saying! I went to AMS this time. I HATE GC, and the mom/pop stores in this area are too high. I like the idea of shopping from this computer. It is really quite simple. If they send me a crappy guitar I'll just keep sending it back until I get one I like. No worries!
Once again I do appreciate everyone's advise.

be prepared to send it back AGAIN. lol

Me, I would have bought that ultra, but I would have beat him down on price.

Next time, try Sweetwater. If their price is a little higher, you can call them and they'll match it. They double the mfr warranty and do a pre-shipment inspection.

Best of luck with the new axe Haley.

I buy a lot of stuff online but a guitar must be held in my hands and played before I will purchase it. So much variation even within the same model in terms of feel and natural resonance so I need to hand pick em.

Bill I see you commented on this thread, you have played some of my guitars and the black LP I have I bought off ebay from a pawn shop in Michigan.

When it came to me it was in a softshell case and sandwiched between a couple of pieces of cardboard, when I opened it I was scared to death what I was gonna find, but now 6 years later Im glad I bought it, its currently in the shop gettting a bone nut and a fret leveling job done to it,

So I guess sometimes you can have a success story with a mail order guitar.

Over the weekend I was in Eureka Springs Ark, and went into a little guitar shop and wound up buying a Harmony Soveriegn Guitar, circa 64-65. Put new strings on it and it sounds a feels great. When I was in my teens a buddy had one and I always said if I found one I would buy it, so strike that one off the list, now if I could get and Explorer and Flying V my life will be complete.

I bought a Fender P-Bass through Guitar Center last year. The deal was clear - either I loved the bass or back it went.

To my great joy - I loved the bass.

Love 'em or hate 'em, sometimes I just prefer a layer of corporate protection - that includes any mail order.

Out of all the guitars I own I only mail ordered one of them.
And I should have sent it back.
But I was either to disappointed, or just to stubborn to admit I made a mistake.

JW I'm jealous. Some of those Harmony Soveriegns were excellent. Never played one but I have a 66 Harmony Bobkat I like fairly well and have played a bunch of other models over the years at pawn shops and such. The Sovereign was probably the best one they ever made. I don't know where to find the date on that one, my Bobkat is a solid body and the date April 1, 1966 is ink stamped on the back side of the pick guard. Look inside with a flashlight, and under the pick guard if you can see under there, it might be stamped.

Many people don't know the true Harmony guitars were all made in the US and they made their own body styles, never a copy. After they folded a Japanese company started making Harmony guitars to make money off the name, but making copies and with a headstock Harmony never used.

Here is one of the Japanese "fake" Harmonys.

Look at the 3rd picture, just the headstock, they also never put that "EST 1892" on their logo. That guitar is not a true Made in USA Harmony.

This is the guitar I have, with the same DeArmond Humbucker. Mine is a little more beat up...got it at a yard sale in San Antonio around 1997. 2 bucks...a dollar for the 3 missing tuner grommets, new strings and a bit of TLC and I used it at band practice last week.

Jeff, there is a Luthier here in town with the most beautiful tabacoo burst Tele. It plays like a dream and he only wants $800 on it.

If I played electric, I could justify snatching it up. Let me know if that sounds like something you want to check out.
