"Jam" with everyone.
"Play" with significantly less people or be ready to field the tough questions if you have some regulars that are part of your thing.

You just have to keep your options open, especially if you got something stuck in your craw or vice versa.

Otherwise, it's "go with the flow".

If the ship is sinking, don't be afraid to swim for shore if you can see it.
If you look behind you, you might just see a swimming rat or 2. lol

It's not unlike introducing your best friend to one of your other friends and they become friends as well.. (You might be spending some time at home, but don't despair, life is full of surprises and everyone does what they do regardless..)

Fortune Favors The Bold

If I'm playing bass with an outfit I generally do my jamming on guitar to keep it interesting.

Since now days folks tend to play in multiple bands it's no big deal.

My most recent situation (hat tip to Scott) I played guitar and worked up originals with the lead singer (who also played guitar) When all the boys were there I played bass. best of all worlds for me.

i've got two gigs tonight.

6-8 V-Day dinner gig at a Country Club playing background solo gtr. i've been doing this gig for a few yrs now.

solo gtr is my LEAST fave gig but it's a good money gig and folks are very generous in my tip jar too....made an additional $90 in tips last yr.

then it's off to my 9-1 truckstop gig w The 121's playing loud honky tonk stuff.

i gave Kenny the gtrst in that group my bass rig and my Precision Lyte bass to have all set up for me when i walk in.

i think i'll greet w him w "thanks, Bart!" when i see him to see if he gets the Tom Petty reference.

I run 1 - 2 open mikes a month, get paid for that.
I have more fun doing that than gigging, to tell you the truth.
I like to encourage the next crop of musicians.
And, also, some of the people at the open mikes have been gigging for years, 30 - 50 years experience . . .
So there are all levels of talent, these 2 particular places are always a lot of fun . . .
