Warning...non musical post

Couple of days ago the rear freeze plug in my Jeep decided to commit suicide. The one all the way in the back, might have to pull the engine to fix it. Tried reaching it to knock it out from underneath, I Can put a rubber one in if I can get it out. No go yet...

Woke up about 2AM yesterday. (after working on the Jeep all afternooon) Nothing unusual, been doing that a lot lately. Not often I sleep past 4 these days...

Walking back from the kitchen I coughed...and yanked a back muscle, almost hit the floor. This same back muscle just recuperated from several days of intense pain just a few days ago. Then had to go outside and bring more firewood in...not fun...coughed a few more times...OUCH...

I've been walking around with my cane since then, trying to avoid overdoing it, let it get back to normal again.

What bothers me is I haven't had any back trouble in around 10 years or so, and I did lots of carpenter work, carrying heavy lumber and such, no problem. Now all of a sudden I've hurt it 3 times in as many months. Looking at a couple more 20 - 25 degree nights, might have enough firewood if I get lucky.

So it rained all day yesterday, everything's soaking wet, including firewood, cover blew off. Can't even play to amuse myself, I can't pick up a guitar...

No I'm not looking for sympathy, just gotta vent a little...it'll get better, can't get much worse...

Sorry to hear that Billy. Nothing worse than back pain. Are you still in Texas? I hope you get better soon.

Yep, still in Lufkin area, probably will be here for a while...

Not too worried about it, give it a couple of days to mend and I'll be ok I just had to bitch a little.

Billy I know how bad a few torn ligaments can be. Hurts like h***. I don't mind a general bitch. It su*ks when all the bad stuff happens.

I don't know if this is going to make you feel better... We just had 8 inches of snow that was wet and packing down to ice. BAD DRIVING DAY. Once again, stupid drivers sliding into poles and trees everywhere. I'm out in this any way so what the h***.

Gwen took a call from a NON CUSTOMER. He had water spewing out of a water pipe and no body would help. He had 3 inches of water on the floor of the little basement apartment he had put in for himself. It was a disgrace.

Sometimes you never know just how bad things can get. 4 years ago he lost his business, a year later his wife died suddenly, and then his 20 year old son was killed in a car accident. There is a bit more to this story that I won't write about.

Let's just say I don't have ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL when I see stuff like this.

Any way Billy my back is is starting to kill me just in sympathy with you.

I hope you catch my drift. SMILE :)

Back issues are generally cumulative in nature.

Take care of your self Billy.

Billy you may have injured (strained) that muscle working on that freeze plug. I was working on my sons car several months ago and the next day my back was sore!

Thanks guys

It's just a minor problem and will ease up in a few days, it just sucks to have all this at one time. My original back problem was caused when I was about 10, some dumbass decided it would be great to show everybody how tough he was by pushing the littlest kid in school (me) off the top of the slide. I felt it crack when I landed. Been having trouble ever since. Lugging 80 pound tube amps around hasn't helped much...

I pulled a muscle a couple of weeks ago, same one, it got better. Then started hurting again a few days ago and was almost back to normal when this happened.

Jeff - It happened when I coughed at about 4 AM, when I got up I was doing fine, after working on the Jeep. Still have to finish that and I'm afraid I'll have to pull the engine to finish. I was trying to avoid that...

George - I know, I've had trouble with it for 40 years and fortunately the past 10 years or so it's been almost nonexistent...but I've had to be carried inside before. Had to crawl to the bathroom first thing i n the morning trying to cry and scream at the same time. Unfortunately it takes something like 200mg Demerol to even think about dulling the pain a little...100mg will barely dull a headache...so pain pills don't help a lot...all I can do is wait it out. But yeah it gets worse over the years, first couple of times it only took a few days to get back to normal. 10 years later it might take a month...fortunately this is just a muscle, not the spine itself, that really sucks...that's what I usually have to deal with.

Indeed.

Lower back strains are an arch nemesis of mine as well.

Praying for healing. :D

I wish you luck with all that brother.

I too, know the joy of back pain. And the joy of everything going wrong all at once.

I suppose we all do.

God bless.

I'll sit in the tub with the jacuzzi jets blowing hot water on my back, then a heating pad. A regular pattern of this helps.

I had a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler in 1984 that messed my back up. The doctors kept saying I need an operation but I'm always suspicious of doctors who want insurance money and work with lawyers who want pain & suffering money.

They told me my chances of it fixing my problems were 50/50 so I told them I'd take my chances. Got off the Soma and Elavil, and every time my back started hurting, no matter what i was doing, I would go lay flat on my back with my knees up for at least 20 minutes.

After a few months of that my back has pretty much never hurt again.

Don't underestimate the power of rest to heal you, brother.

Thanks guys.

I used to sleep on the floor, it seemed to help a lot. The past 10 years or so it started to hurt more so I stopped. I've done the lay out with my knees up thing, but probably not enough. I agree I won't let them cut into me until they have to carry me in. I've known too many people who regretted back surgery.

It's doing better today, not back to normal yet but improving. Should only take a few days, long as I can avoid straining it again...I've dealt with this for over 40 years, I know it's not fun, but it's not near as bad as it could be. I've had to be carried inside before, 2 weeks in bed unable to walk more than bathroom and back...I can walk around, and I do as much as I can then rest a while. Stiff and spore when I get up but a few minutes and I'm ok, do it all over again...

I had an accident that left my back in questionable shape and as a result, I cramp often especially in my back.

I take Potassium Gluconate for the cramping.
1x/day.

It works for me.

Try it, it might work for you..especially if you have a shitty diet and you hate prescriptions.

(it's over the counter)

Don't have any cramps, but do have a shitty diet and hate prescriptions. Only thing I've taken is some muscle relaxers, they help even though I don't like it. I think 2 nights I took them, mostly all back to normal now, but still taking it easy and trying to make damn sure I don't overdo it. Split some firewood an hour ago, no problems, might be mostly out of the woods.
