if I could entice somebody to drive out to my place to work up my original music most of which nobody's heard, with one other guitar player and then if need be, flesh it out with a bassist and percussionist.. might be able to make tip money if nuthin' else nuthin' fancy, just good original chamber music type guitar music.. Lynyrd! are you listening? I would give you a shot at this opportunity laid out for you.. who wants to make some money? 8)

for some reason i always found the notion and use of the word "perfect" for 4ths and 5ths to be funny.

same thing w the different chord "qualities".

i.e. what's the quality.... maj, dominant 7th, or minor?

western music basically started it's formality in Italy I think, standard notation is attributable to Italians which makes sense, since they borrowed from the Roman collegia and stuff..

too bad you're not closer, dane. but if you ever wanted to hire some musicians in my neck of the woods to go into the studio or record here at my place i have access to some top notch players here.

in fact i have an ad up c-list presently trying to scare up some studio work for my truck stop band.

I know what you mean, John, I had that problem for a long time after taking college-level theory. Now I don't really think about it, instead my mind just 'pulls' the 'right' next chord out of the air (or not, when I'm stuck).

"Perfect" 4ths and 5ths do not actually exist in 12 tone equal temperament.

They are a little out of tune compared to 4ths and 5ths as reckoned by the natural harmonic series or Pythagorean arithmetic calculation. (Not so bad as the 3rds & 6ths though.)

BTW.....between wasting time here on BM, i'm typing while holding my zebra wood fretless P Bass in my lap and messing around trying to lay down a scratch recording of a new Weather Report style tune i just came up with.

fretless...the PERFECT answer to just and non just intonation everywhere!
