Emoticons

I was looking at the ones on the left. I copied and pasted them them .

Very Happy Smile Sad Surprised
Shocked Confused Cool Laughing
Mad Razz Embarassed Crying or Very sad
Evil or Very Mad Twisted Evil Rolling Eyes Wink
Exclamation Question Idea Arrow

Then I hit the "View more Emoticons" link to see all the "extra ones".

Very Happy Smile Sad Surprised Shocked Confused Cool Laughing
Mad Razz Embarassed Crying or Very sad Evil or Very Mad Twisted Evil Rolling Eyes Wink
Exclamation Question Idea Arrow Neutral Mr. Green

I found that those really expanded my choices.! Neutral and Green are my favorites in the "More Emoticons" list. :)

Has anyone found any great screen savers? 3D Aquarium is really nice. The fire place one I downloaded is rather cool other than the nag screen that pops up after a minute.

Anyone built or acquired any new guitars?

Yes. This is a post about nothing.

I disable the screensaver in any computer I use. Annoying. On my home computer that I use for recording, I have the 'go to sleep' disabled, too. It'll screw up USB-soundcard settings and if you're in the middle of a session, you better have saved your last changes.

Guitars - I wish. Stil jonesing for a nylon string Taylor like I played at the Road Show in October. My wife says 'no more guitars' - admittedly, my Taylor, Ibanez 12 string, Fender acoustic and Telecaster are the only ones that get any use these days.

new gtrs? funny you should ask.

since sept i've been "babysitting" a 1987 japanese FENDER Precision Lyte that belongs to a student of mine. full scale Jazz bass sized neck, trimmed down and thinner P bass body shape, active Jazz and Precision p/us w two band (treble/bass) tone controls, volume, and p/u pan pot. very clean and plays great.

he was gonna sell it to me back in sept and let me take it to a gig where i immediatley fell in love w it. we came to terms.....and then he changed his mind about selling it! it's one of a few he owns so feeling bad, he told me to hold onto it for awhile. i've been gigging w it on those long 4 hr truckstop gigs and the small body and light weight really do help.

anyway, yesterday he wanted to come by to get it. i told him how i felt about the bass and to name any price for it.....he said "let's do what we last talked about".

so, happily i'm giving him $250 and two free lessons ($50 value)...i couldn't be happier.

this weekend i'm playing two "doubles"...two gigs tonight and two tomorrow. i tell ya....the lighter weight of this baby really helps out my old back and legs.

Nope nothing new but a couple of songs to learn.

I don't like screen savers, I found out long ago working on computers they cause too many problems. Especially of you set screensaver to come on after power management shuts down the monitor...locks up the whole damn thing. Even set right, screen savers use a lot of video resources, and are pretty much useless with anything newer than a VGA monitor. (that means anything after about 1992 or so...) EGA was the only one that required a screensaver, the old black and white or black and green ones some stores still use, leaving it on would eventually burn the letters into the screen. VGA stopped that (the original color monitor, all of 16 colors I think) no more ghost images.

Screensavers can also lock up computers, especially if anything like antivirus starts up in the background, lock things up for little reason, and those downloaded online often carry spyware or worse. When ActiveX was originally used to install viruses and so forth off websites and email, the 3 things we always advised people to avoid were game download, screensaver download and porn sites, not to mention any email that comes from someone you don't know or with an attachment. Not long after we had to add music downloading programs (Kazaa, Limewire, Grokster etc) to the list. Shortly after Napster was shut down ALL of them installed spyware. No exceptions...most probably still do.

I set power management to shut down the monitor and nothing else ever happens, I don't even let it shut down the hard drive much less use hibernation or suspend.

If you have to use a screensaver, (these days it's nothing but eye candy) get it from a known reputable source, never download it off the internet. Always scan with something like Malware Bytes after installing one.

I feel the same way about screen savers as most of you. This isn't for anything I take serious as on my video or recording machines.

But here's the real deal. A computer shop that I used to frequent had to move. He decided to work at home instead of renting. He had to throw away tons of cases older MB (I did get a couple 3.4 Pentium duos out of the deal) I took all the old MB's that were lying in the junk pile some monitors and power supplies. Out of about 12 Monitors, I got at least 7 working with good scratch less units. Out of the piles of discarded computer cases and MB's, I got 8 machines that work really good. All are P4 266 - 3.0 CPU's.

i PUT SMALL Hard drives in them and I made an aquarium our of one. It does nothing else other than run something like the 3D Aquarium and a fire place on a medium sized screen. So I have a cozy fore or a fish tank in the corner of the room just for enjoyment. I do love the 3D Aquarium. It has keyboard functions. If you hit a "W" you get the "wire" version of the fish and plants, and rocks.

This thing looks real, and it has the bubble sound of the air bubbles popping on the surface and going through the water. Yeah. Screen savers suck on good stuff, but for a stand alone Aquarium in the corner of the room that looks and sounds real at a glance is really relaxing. My daughter saw it and had to have one and another friend has to have one. I won't have any problem getting those older units out from under foot and people really love "pretend, self cleaning" fish tanks and "immortal fish".

Not only that, but I like stashing a bunch of pictures on that hard drive and running slide shows with them. Just a nice picture frame at times.

Yeah, I know. I really need to get a life. But then, I'm a musician. Hard to get any weirder than that, or so a lot of folks believe.

About nothing huh? I don't know if all musicians are weird, maybe just the good ones, you get weird after practicing alone for many hours over many years.

Oh here's another big nothing, I've almost finished recording my 1st song to go on my bm player, a screaming guitar blues tuned tentatively titled "FBob Blues", just need to lay the final vocal tract down. Since I'm looking for a bass player, to play in a screaming guitar band, I think I'm going to shoot a video of a Xmas carol I wrote with me playing the piano, it's just how I do things. 1st Xmas carol I ever wrote, not done but 2 verses and the chorus so its there just need the third verse to reinforce the point, using Xmas words. I think lyrically it's the best song I ever wrote, titled "Xmas Morning"
