Absolutely.

Have a listen to this song by John Martyn he has more soul in his little finger etc. just try and let it come naturally without the forced embellishment leave that to the X factor singers.

Pronunciation on John Martyn is deplorable. Like a deaf person. He is on key. That's all I can say about him. Dude, he is bad. That synth sound is atrocious. Gaudy. Ugh.

On the contrary, Hendrix, Janis, Jim Morrison, Zep, and Amy Winehouse shows were pretty terrible when they were completely wasted. There are bootleg recordings around to hear just how bad they were. They even cancelled a few local shows because these performers were too far gone to continue. They had a boatload of talent and could perform while "slightly high" better than most of us though.

Now u can watch Hendrix play at that concert where he pours lighter fluid on his guitar and lit it, you know the one where they were announcing over the pa don't take the brown acid, they said Hendrix took 2 hits of the brown, it's on film you judge his playing. How high does Keith Richards look on Gimme Shelter and he's totally in the groove, watch the film. What about Keith Moon? Bon Scott? I've personally seen Johnny Paycheck drink a fifth of whiskey and put on a incredible show.

And I don't know where your from FBob but back in the day a lot of construction jobs we drank and did drugs all day, because we had wives and young kids to go home to in the evening.

I'm sorry Angelique I didn't mean to take over your thread, so I went back and listened to you sing. I think you did a fine job, if you would have had a piano accompaniment instead of guitar you would have really nailed it , the guitar player was playing a lot of the notes he should have left for you, but fine job on a beautiful song.

I'm not that big of a John Martyn fan either,
so I tried to find a version of OTR sung by one of my favorite singer / guitarists, Joseph Spence,
.... no such luck though, but this one is good ...

I guess it depends what you or I consider 'good playing' is. If you're a big fan of highly technical playing and you see someon play and the precision is your off a little bit then it could be considered that as 'sloppy' where as non technical guys could consider it as part of the human factor of playing music (ie feel).

I thought out of control wasted, barely functional Hendrix was awesome!

cheers!

I'm known for it.
My critiques are actually specifically requested from time to time. I am meticulous.
Pitch, tone, mixes, effects, timing, phrasing, production. I am music. I am immersed in every aspect of it. Not just vocals.
