A national touring guitarist is checking out me and the Parrott man tomorrow. Says he's tired of his gig, won't quit it entirely because of the $, but wants to try something more "laid back." Me and the Parrott man are the least "laid back" rhythm section he'll ever play with, little does he know what he's in for.

Got switched to tonight. In a way not looking forward to it. Talked to him on the phone a few times months ago. A note for note guy (yuck). Also since he's "been doing this for a living for 20 years" he "knows everything abut the music biz." Except he argued with everything I desire in a band. So tonight I'm keeping my mouth shut and just play. Pretend it's a jam session and blow his head off. Then see how much he "knows about the music business" as he shuts his mouth in awe....then when he wants to join the band he'll have to change his mind on a few items. I'm willing to compromise to make the Parrott man happy. Best drummer I ever played with, and doesn't have too long to live....

Sort of the problem, personality conflicts, ideas on what "blues" is and isn't, somebody thinking WE are joining HIM and not the other way around, somebody who says NO to almost everything WE want to do, etc. I guess you could say it's chemistry. Plus I wasn't really impressed with his playing to be honest. Kind of a let down. But I won't disparage his name in a public forum like this. He's enjoyed a good income for over a dozen years just playing music so that's more than I could say about 99.9% of the musicians in the world...

That's 99.9% of the musicians you know.

The musicians who make a living just playing music is very low, maybe not 99.9%, but I'll bet it's way over 90%. Most have day jobs or part time jobs that have nothing to do with performing music. I read a stat somewhere a while back and it was staggering how high it was. So it's not just those I know but EVERY musician. And I'll bet the number is growing, what with the economy being the way it is and so many people downloading music for free...Being a musician ain't what it used to be even a few decades ago...

The dude sent me an email, he doesn't understand and I'm a gentleman, just wished him luck. I'm sure he's perplexed. Maybe he'll call the Parrott man, I don't really care one way or another. If something's not right, just go with it. No reason to explain it. Go with your gut instincts. They usually are correct.
