I'm hip to what ur saying PlanetMan. it's the key to playing southern rock, playing that pentatonic major scale and then flipping rite back into that pentatonic minor scale, then take those scales and use the notes say G, Bb, C, D, F, the pentatonic minor scale in G and start it on the 2nd mode and Play Bb, C, D, F, G, Bb, then do that with the all the notes in the scale ie C, D, F, G, Bb, C, D and so on with the pentatonic minor and major scales blend these all together all over the neck and ur started to learn lead guitar.
The major scale has 7 notes slice and dice it too. I've been into playing the 4 notes of a 7th chord any 7th chord as a scale they call this arpeggios but played like a scale it's a very cool sound, it was harder for me to learn thse "4 note scales" then the big 7 and 9 note scales.
