Noticed an influx of new people in Massachusetts, and others updating their profiles more.
Wonder if this is due to the crappy Craiglist anonymous reply system which is MAJOR failing these days - responses/replies are not getting delivered. Someone suggested getting rid of embedded html (web sites, email addresses) because this could be blocking the messages from getting through, so I tried that yesterday and at least 1 DID get through because I received a quick reply back overnight (through the anonymous reply system, so still have to wait for the guy to email my real address).

lol That's like I am trying to sell off a Prescription Electronics: The Experience for 150$.

So I get no peep from anyone for say 3 months, now all of a sudden it's a deluge.

But after I write them back, they don't reply.

As in all I say is ok, when and where? And they just never make another sound.

I wondered what was going on with CL, as I used to sell a fair amount of stuff on there. Now it's very spotty and you get more spam replies than anything else.

The best is the way people expect you to call them.
What's wrong with email? You say where you are going to be at what time and it's a done deal.

I sold a ton of guitars that way, well up until recently.

Now they send you a message and expect you to call their cell.

"You know what you can do with your iphone, right"?

You might something to clean it with after or it will smell bad when you put it next to your ear. lol

Maybe it's the fact that I refuse to ship anything to anyone.
"Either pick up or shut up, those are your options".

The problems started when they made the 'response' system double-blind. No longer do the advertisers who get your reply see your email address (although the CL FAQs still says they will).

I think this place “could” be a gold mine if management would listen to the repeated complaints. I am still relatively new, but observe the same conversations all the time by people that come along. Usually, it’s two main things.

“Surprise” #1 is you can’t even send another member a message without paying for a premium membership. I say “surprise” because so many people don’t even know this until they try to send a message (which might not be for a long time), or see the discussion in the forums (IF they go there), so isn’t made real obvious at registration time. With limited ability to communicate, people disappear, which leads to the next “surprise”.

“Surprise” #2 is the fact that many people don’t reply if they are contacted. They have disappeared, likely because of surprise #1. The fact that there is no “house cleaning” of members who have been inactive for a loooooong time just adds to the frustration of anyone trying to communicate.

To throw in just one more thing, it sure seems that spam/abuse in the forums could be snuffed out quicker than it is. I think it only encourages more when it remains for so long.

If this site allowed free communication and cleaned out the inactive members, I think there would be so much traffic here that advertising alone would probably bring in more revenue than they ever dreamed. I’m not saying you can’t have success here with connections, because I see many talk about it. I’m just saying it could be that much better.

It is what it is.

In a perfect world everything would go just as we wish, but only if there were only one person living in it. Ya just have to learn to work with what you have. When you do that success will follow................

or not. :)

Slacker has the right idea, ADAPT AND OVERCOME.

Nothing will go your way, I repeat nothing will go your way.
It's a fact of life.

Are you going to take it? If so, go get a beer and sit on your ass.
You're done.

If not, get up and do something about it.
You control your own destiny.

Use what you have and make the world bend to your will, it's easier than you think. You just have to allow yourself to succeed and bitching about stuff beyond your control is a defeatist attitude.

If you don't like something you can't change, get up and move on.

Some situations do not work well for whatever reason, don't pine, don't sigh, don't cry. Get up and do what you have to do to get the job done.

Otherwise go get a beer and quit because that's what most people do in the face of adversity, they fold like a house of cards.

Real victors have the will to win even in the face of overwhelming odds.

That's the American dream and pussies need not apply, they just don't have the heart to finish the journey.

Don't be weak, it's pointless. Be strong because fortune favors the bold and whatever is going to happen, will happen regardless of what you think. You just have to help it along and not give up on yourself prematurely.

Don't concentrate on what you don't have, concentrate on what you do have to use to get the job at hand done. Forget the rest...nothing is ideal.

Not sure whom the rambling lecture is for. Anyone who thinks the site cannot be any better can certainly just live with it. I’m just saying it could be better, and offering suggestions, which isn’t really “crying”. If no changes are made, so be it. If you want to argue over constructive criticism, we can argue. If your point is to accept everything as is, and not offer ideas to improve it, go argue with someone else’s post.

Well the real issue is that most of us have aspirations to go out and play or record music, when there is realistically no money going to come our way other than gas money and maybe enough for food, beer and strings!

If everyone was really making money and willing to spend money on thier craft then places like this would be great, but the way it is now, it is what it is, use it or lose it.

I used to think all the mudslinging was entertaining, but as of late I just dont even read any of it. I dont care who the "ALPHA MALE" is around here.

Anyway, everyone have a great evening and if your out playing then just kick some azz!

Exactly, there are a select few here who make a modest living with music, but if you're only in it for the money .... well ... they say "the way to make a million dollars with music is to start with 2 million."

Seldom do you get anywhere posting anything on line. You get somewhere by pounding the streets and knocking on doors. Your efforts usually always bear fruit at the local level.

When we didn't have gigs, we would go to clubs that didn't have live music and convince them to give it a try. A good many times that proved to pay off for the band as well as the club owners.

Slacker u look like a damn hippie.

Theres all kinds of musicians making full time money around here, in all genres, u gotta know what u want and go after it, if it's just money the theme parks, shows and casinos only hire the better players, while the production companies are only interested in the better players, so moral of the story practice and study music. Whiners whine players play, and craigslist sucks. Thinking about using bandmix to find a bass player, but haven't been on the computer much lately.

Slackers right, if ur any good get out to a open mike, or audition for a band and you'll be jamming in no time, if that's what u want to do, seems most just want to talk about it. And on top of all that it sure is good when u play out, and people come up and tell u how good they think u are, it helps when dealing with all the negative assholes.

My new rule in bands that seems to very well is never criticize always praise, there's enough assholes out there who are going to talk sh*t. ( Tho we don't seem to have a problem with shittalkers to our face.

U gotta practice practice practice the better more knowledgeable players are making the more regular money, thru hardwork.

U wanta make money playing music its easy

1. Roll ur ass out of bed in the morning like a man, u know about 150 to 200 reps of 5 or6 excercises, then a nice 7 or 8 mile run.

2. Out of the shower to rehearse ur piano set for a hour or so

3. 2 hours polishing on ur scales on guitar

4. 1,5 hours on the first 2 sets on guitar

Now ur ready for lunch (No meat it'll just slow u down

5. Comeback with a good hour thumping on ur bass rig

6. Then another 2 hours on ur setlist with ur guitar

7. Scatter in study of the fretboard and melodic and harmonic tone relations

Do this for a few years 6 days a week and enjoy the herbs and wines of this great country and u can make as much money as u want at this, or u can talk about it all the time on the bm forum and cl and a host of other sites

The scene here in Branson is changing fast, but the better players are always gonna be in higher demand.

Where u been Dane I never c u at a live music venue and I'm out at these venues 3 or 4 times a week.

Those who can do, others talk about it.

Slacker u look like a damn hippie.
:)

My daughter is a beautician. I had asked her to bring her gear over to cut my hair when she came to my house to watch movies. She kept forgetting.

After several months she said I remembered to bring them if you want me to. I said "No, I think I'll let it grow out for a while. It's rather a PIA to take care of but I want to do a couple of music vids with it long then I'll probably cut it again. The whole time I was playing in those redneck bars it was a bit longer. The truckers and rednecks used to really like to hassle me.
