Free or pay, it's a crap shoot.

More than half of the registrants do not read the forums at all.

I think I can speak for a few that have had success here in that the reply rate is very low and only say 1 in 20 responses has any chance of being viable for a serious musician.

Seems like they listen to your samples or whatever their own personal criteria is and then if they don't like what's going on, they simply don't reply.

Some of us here have been very lucky and have done well, some have not.

I think if you want to get the full value of it, you pay the 10$ a month and pray for like-minded people, but it is definitely difficult even if you paid.

The personalities on the forum I think are better than those that cannot read or won't read a forum, but these are few and far between.

If I were you, I'd pay and see how it goes. If you don't get the responses you want say after a few months, just reduce to a free membership and keep praying.

Good Luck, ask the forum people anything you want. They'll help you as much as they can, as we all want help with something at some point.

So having said that, you are right back where you started again.

Will you find someone? That answer is a resounding MAYBE. lol
But paying does help in that you have no restrictions, where as a non-paying member can only reply to a paying member that initiates the contact.

"Does this site actually do anything for you? Is it worth paying for?"

well, it all comes down to what you want and expect to get from this site, doesn't it?

i don't hang out here and expect to get gigs, or hook up w other musicians to play with though i have had several people from out of state contact me about joining their bands after viewing my profile.

some actually seemed like pretty happening situations but i'm staying busy where i am and so have no desire to relocate or go out on the road for extended periods of time.

i come here to shoot the $hit musically about gear and gigs, check out other folks' music and vids...share some of mine, and sometimes scuffle in some dumbass political discussions for $hits and grins.

there are folks on this site who can be ijits (i include myself) but by and large there are a lot of good and talented people here.

i notice that you signed up in 2011 yet this is only your 7th post.

begs the question...what is it you hope to gain from this site?

If you see some possible bandmates with recently-updated profiles, but no contact info, it might be worth the $10 for one month so you contact them - but your profile should be loaded with info, samples, etc when you do so.

For me CL has been akin to a minefield. Bandmix has been much better for me, and while I'm not a premier member now, in the past I have been, and it was worth it.

Lately CL responses are NOT getting through to the people putting the ads in. The 'anonymous' email system has glitches.

Same here, Bmix is kind of a wasteland, but CL is a flat out cattle call for weirdos and people that say one thing, but do something completely different.

I have better luck here at Bmix.

And good god when you actually find one that uses the forum, you are fairly golden.

On the convex, if they don't read, they probably aren't wonderful musicians, but sometimes you roll with the punches, sometimes you get to dish em out.

Bandmix is just another tool in the tool chest.

A hammer never built a house.
