But how does it taste?
(like chemicals that you use to kill roaches?) lol

I'm a little late here. Who or what the hell is Avirl? Hey GA Ive been doing Gung fu for 20+ years and still love it. But I'd sure like to have all those cuts, hematomas, broken ribs and fingers and hands. torn rotator cuff etc. back the way they used to be. Stick to the guitar. besides you really wont have time to do justice to both. In order for Gung-Fu to work for you it has to be a lifestyle. It is hard work, every day or your just wackin off. That is why I'm retired from the fight thing and workin on my band. Although my Gung - Fu brothers continue to ask me to train them.
Avril Lavigne, she is a Canadian pop rock singer (Or maybe alternative rock, depends who you ask).
I see, well, I would like to do some form of martial art to get myself into shape though, just something. I am a swimmer by trait though (I have not swam in more than a year however, no pool where we moved to). I am a very good swimmer actually, very smooth and fast (Too bad I could not take that to the Olympics just for the Hell of it!).
I also want to be able to defend myself, right now I could get my ass kicked clear across the road, I am not a good fighter. I would like to know something just for an emergency.
Peace, GuitarAnatomy.

I thought poprocks were for blow jobs? I,m cool with staying fit its a good idea. Swimming is great for the body, I'm a strong swimmer in the survival sense, but I,m neither fast nor smooth. The best defense is to avoid confrontation by being aware of your surroundings. Run like hell if you can. buy a gun for when you cant. Never met a bullit or knife proof blackbelt. But Ive met a lot of them who cant fight. Still if you insist on learning how to fight start with wrestling or Jujitsu. In the real world of unarmed self defense if you cant wrestle you cant fight. Ive seen very few all out brawls that did not end up on the ground. Take a Man like our friend Captin Scott. A man that size and strength you gotta get real far away or stick to um like glue anything in between, your history. Hope you dont mind my useing you for an example Capn.
True. I am not much into that kind of self defense art though. That is why I chose Kung Fu, it actually fascinated me, more than any other has before. Despite all of the arduous workouts that come with it, it looks worth it to me.
I mainly want to get back to swimming though, that is my pride and joy.
A guy 6-2 is a big guy, so yeah, I would not want to cross a guy of that height and up, especially if they are not frail. I am not short necessarily, but even though that is still 3 inches over me in shoes, lol.
I need some kind of martial art under my belt, something. I will have to do more research into it.

I don't mind and you're absolutely right.
I prefer to "leg them and leave them" when they are bigger than I am.
Take the knee and they don't/won't be following you.

I do love Gung- Fu in its many variations. If there are a bunch of 8 year olds wearing blackbelts and breaking boards - look elsewhere.
If the instructor tells you not to kick the legs - look elswhere.
If the instructor tells you not to catch the kicks - look elsewhere.
If the instructor has to stike you to make a point - look elsewhere.
In some of the more traditional Chinese schools you may not even get to talk with the Sifu until you have been studying there a while. This is not a sign of disrespect or disinterest it is a TEST. One of my personal favorites is "Praying Mantis", it has many branches. I studied "Seven Star" Praying Mantis for several years. It is a beautiful and complex art. With much traditional weapon study and deep historical heratige. And well suited for a man of your build. The northern Chinese systems tend to have longer range, circular and flowing technique. The Southern Chinese systems tend to be more direct and angular with shorter techique and lower kicking. But these are just generalities. If it were not for the mental disipline I gained thru Gung-Fu I would never made it through Nursing school.
Yes Captain it is much easer to kick a man in the head after you dislocate his ankle. Thank you.

I will look into that art form, thank you for the recommendation. By the way, the picture in my profile is not of me in case anyone is thinking this, lol. I doubt it, but just want to make that part clear, that is Kirk Hammett in the "Unforgiven" video.

If you remove the leg/ankle/knee, you can walk away. Why do you kick him in the head? It's already over. Funny, but I was taught to walk away and not to exploit unless absolutely necessary.
I think you hear the MORTAL KOMBAT saying in your head, "finish him". (it's just a game)
Try using the big head to it's full potential. And stop using me as an example/sounding board/dart board. I think you can find a more willing victim.

Really good moral questin Captain: I was also taught the principles of escelation /de-escelation of confrontation. And the Mercyful side as is historical with Gung Fu. I was also taught never to turn my back on an enemy whom still had any potential to do me injury. The ankle dislocation of which I refered has not always prove to do so especially in the age of projectile fireing weapons. After I disable If by chance all threat in the area is abated I would place that individual into a recovery position and render aid as required. I the threat was not abated and I had an opportunity I'd get me the hell outa there. (its also my standard reply to those jokers who like to brag about how high they can kick. You know the old "Boards don't hit back" routine)And I would never engage in combat unless I was forced to defend myself.
Sanshouheil, if I find out that "Mortal Kombat" is real, I am entering you and betting on you. Could make some good money?
Just do not die...
Lmao, just kidding around with you. Martial arts are called "Self-defense" for a reason, they are not meant to be used in any other situation but self-defense, so to me anyone who uses it just to pick on people are nuts.
I do not have time right now to take martial arts lessons, but maybe someday I will when I have time - I think I would enjoy it.
Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

Heyyy GA, ever think about meeting a lady at one of those Gung Fu meeting's that SS speak's about.
Man talk about some chicks with muscle tone. OMG! And Youd probably lose your money GA. I was a poor student, pain and failue were my best teachers. Took many butt kickins. To tell the truth I dont think I ever learned a thing by winning. Looks like I'm gonna learn guitar the same way. Slow and painfull.
