Are you happy yet?

You are either profiting from the work of others, stolen legally from us by the government....or you are completely stupid and don't know what's going on in the first place.

Communism/socialism fails once people realize that they don't profit from doing more work. Then everyone stops producing and the economy crumbles under the weight of more outgo than income.

The latest numbers come as more working-age adults picked up low-wage jobs in the slowly improving economy but still struggled to pay living expenses. Americans 65 and older had the largest increases in poverty under the revised formula, from 9.1 percent to 14.8 percent, because of medical expenses such as Medicare premiums, deductibles and other costs not accounted for in the official rate.

There also were increases for Hispanics and Asian-Americans, partly due to lower participation among immigrants and non-English speakers in government aid programs such as housing aid and food stamps.

African-Americans and children, helped by government benefits, had declines in poverty compared with the official rate.

-Food stamps helped lift about 5 million people above the poverty line. Without such aid, the overall poverty rate would increase from 16 percent to 17.6 percent.

if it weren't for Social Security payments, the poverty rate would rise to 54.7 percent for people 65 and older and 24.5 percent for all age groups.

Refundable tax credits such as the earned income tax credit helped lift 9 million people above the poverty line. Without the credits, child poverty would rise from 18 percent to 24.7 percent.

-----------------------------------------

So take away government handouts (stolen legally from American citizens to redistribute) we are looking at way too much poverty. That's unacceptable in the land of the brave.

How did this nation get here?

Seems obvious to me that once people start depending on government, they stop producing. THAT was the lesson of the original Thanksgiving. Each person should be responsible for their own destiny. Once their lot in life depends on someone else, they become a leech on everyone else.

We are at the point where half the country are leeching off the other half. When we do reach the tipping point (almost there now) it's going to crash extremely fast...but it will be too late for the Obamites to realize how wrong they have been.

AND HERE IS THE KICKER:

"Given current economic conditions, poverty will not be substantially reduced unless government does more to help the working poor."

uh..no. Why don't these idiots ever seem to learn from facts and history?

That is the problem. America was doing great until LBJ's "Great Society" welfare programs began. All lower income people started getting government handouts and it COMPLETELY destroyed the family unit in almost all neighborhoods.

Why work when they will pay you not to? Why take the chance of losing that (meager sum of) money by looking for a job? C'mon, everyone knows how to play this system, right?

People develop self-respect by making their own way, earning the right to say "I bought and paid for this".

Any other way would make you soft and whiny. You'd expect everyone else to take care of "your" needs; as if it's more important than mine?

And there you have it. America under Obama.
