this is from a PLANET JAZZ gig a cpl of days ago at Brooklyn Pizza.

some short video of an old tune of mine. as long as it's been around i've never come up w a name for it other than the two chords used "G69 A69".

the wife shot the video and pulled the plug just a little bit into bill's bass solo when his brain checked out and he forgot he was soloing over D Major!

bummer cos' afterwards.....i KILLED on my solo. no, really. i mean I KILLED. did i mention how i killed on my solo?????

guess y'all will just have to take my word for it.

Sans my uneducated guess would be to create 3 and 4 note chords and also harmonies on melodies/ solos...

Sans, it is so you can play chordal stuff. Just like a guitar playing multiple strings. However Mark needs four hammers so he can hit something... ANYTHING.

Any man that can hit a chord with four hammers has got my vote.

four mallets has become the kinda standard way to play since gary burton came on the scene in the mid 60's.

yeah, it allows for chordal stuff, and comping in your left hand (like a piano) but actually it makes a lot of single line stuff easier to play as well.

...and it drives the wimmens craaaaaaaaaazy!!!!

That's a really good tune mark. Reminded a bit of Steely Dan. You guys kept it simple as a groove with the 4/4 timing. My simple ears enjoyed it. One of your better tunes IMO.

yep, jahva...that's one of my older tunes that's been around for awhile.

wrote it as sort of an exercise to get away from writing tunes w a lot of chord changes. and at the time i was really into exploring intervals like the unison line that's in 6ths.

your "music name"??? sorry, you have me confused now.

as you may or may not know, Larry Talbot was the name of the Wolfman. i wrote that song while playing 6 nights a week in the house band of The Silver Bullet Lounge in Columbia, MO. back in the mid '80's. silver bullet...get it?

it was a country place and we did a two stepping version of it....man it was a trip watching people dance to it! the gal who played fiddle balked at first about having to play in Cm (those fiddlers ain't real big of flat keys) but before long she was killin' on it!

anyway...it was a very tongue in cheek and oblique (hey, that rhymes!) tip of the hat to the original Wolfman movie. one of my faves as a kid.
