Sorry John, and Crip. If you guys want to keep it purely musical then stick to the other side of this forum. The part that I see is, this is the high profile wide open side of Band Mix. If you guys just want to talk music, please don't be offended if it jolts into the many political sides of music.

Both of you are completely different types of people, but I do respect and appreciate your musical talents.

As far as politics please appreciate the wide open tolerance that Band mix allows.

I will go so far as to say this is one of the few remaining sites people can have an all out brawl with out being censored.

You don't need a DI if the mixer you are running to has a preamp

no preamp in that DOD mixer. strictly passive.

but a DI will take an unbalanced signal (like the typical TS guitar cable) and make it balanced so you can run the signal 50/100/however many feet back to the mixer with no loss of signal. Try running a 50 foot guitar cable (there's a reason you won't find them in the store) and see what happens to your sound.

mike, since on most of gigs i'm usually running the board from the stage i'm never more than spitting distance from it.

We're saying the same thing - the set-up you had using the DOD was using the Roland's preamp. No DI needed if the amp/mixer has a preamp and you're close enough.
