Not so much steal my songs. But I have had little signatures and measures that I created that so-called "friends" have borrowed and put into their songs. One signature I came up with was a bass line that a "friend" put into his song as part of an extended solo break.

I've noticed a lot of guys have the thought process of - because they were involved in making a song, 'they' wrote it.
I had one song that I brought to the table complete - guitar, bass, drums, melody, and a wacky singer claim the song because he wrote some words and altered the melody slightly...
Whatever.

If there aren't more to come, then what's the point?
Eat all you want, I'll make more.

Ooh I hear you..loud and clear.

I believe the person that did the most writing is responsible for the song.

Others think that the longer they spend mixing or mastering makes them the sole owner of stuff. (If you didn't have anything to mix or master, what would you have written exactly>? So glad to have your keys line and percussion, just vocals, guitar and bass lines left to conjure from 1 basic line. No big deal, right? Give it a shot, jr. You'll see what I mean when you write crap with no vocals and no real guitar/bass line to speak of.)

I guess the reality of it is that anyone that works hard on it, whether via writing or via mixing/mastering is part owner of it, if you want to be fair.

But remember "FAIR is something that comes to town once a year in the summer", that's what the outside world teaches and any kind of kindness is perceived as weakness.

Don't be kind or you'll be treated as weak. Weak is just asking to get screwed over. Be mean, the rest of the world is, why not you?

Mean people go far, look around you. "Mean" is the new determined.

If someone was stabbing me in the back, and trying to screw me over financially, then there would be a problem - but some goofballs delusion?... not the end of the world.

Yeah but Zip it really only starts to hurt when it becomes for real world ducats and fringe bene's previously unrealized.

Then when you lose out on that stuff, it feels like a knife in the back of your head.

What mugshot? Hasn't been one yet. Mitigating circumstances.

Yup. had a guy release my (me n my 2 other bandmates) music in Europe. Had made 35k on it by the time i found out... thing is, he was already quite wealthy, and my guitarist was dirt poor. Some producer/friend eh?!
